I have the facelift (Bi-Xenon) passenger and driver side from a Z4M. Not sure if they are compatible with pre-facelift? Not in great nick though.. but could do a good deal on them. Let me know

I’m not sure if I can help, but my E85 has aftermarket zenon’s and I’ve just replaced the driver’s side unit before an MOT. The unit would not have failed, but I chose to replace it as it was duller than the passenger’s side. See photo’s...

Please be quick though, as I am about to post it for sale...

I’ve put it up for £100, but please be sure that it’s right for you. My zed originally had halogen lights, but it had a xenon conversion before I bought it. The replacement unit works perfectly with my arrangement, but Incan’t guarantee that this is compatible with BMW OEM xenon lights. I’ll pull the ad whilst you check....

No it's not - at least it's not directly compatible. Not to mention the fact that you shouldn't run one side halogen and the other xenon :|

FWIW Ala5dair - Are you sure they were after market xenons, or was it just someone trying to used "Xenon" bulbs in a halogen unit. I say that because they're are NO aftermarket xenons to the best of my knowledge. I tried to find some for ages because I wanted a set with "angel eyes" / Halos but ended up cutting my headlights open and making them myself.

Yeh i have also looked for aftermarket xenons and none to be found. I was thinking it would be easier to buy 2 aftermarket xenons rather than wait for OEM to appear for both sides.

If it comes cmplete with ballast, and units etc inside the light , i would assume OEM. ?

Hi IamOrion

I’m not suggesting that anyone should run one side halogen and one xenon. I’m new to the zed, and I know little, but I know enough to know that would be crazy. :D

Ref the aftermarket lights, mine were fitted by www.dynamicperformance.org who are still advertising them from £145 per pair. I believe they use the original housing but replace the halogen bulb with a HID ballast and xenon bulb. I certainly get a very bright, very white light, far better than the original.

According to recent MOT changes, though aftermarket xenons are supposed to be an MOT fail. I discussed this with my mechanic who said that this was nonsense as far as he was concerned. If the car has xenons he is not allowed to investigate whether they are OEM or aftermarket - not even to remove the rear cover.
So, he replaced the headlamp I have with a new OEM (Hella) to match the LHS, replaced the Dynamic xenon kit and passed the MOT.

Coming back to your issue, Crimson_27, it may be safest for you not to take the risk with my halogen, unless you can get another, and then look at a conversion from http://www.dynamicperformance.org/headlights...?

Can I take any close ups, or photo’s from a particular angle to help?

Rriiiggghhhhhtttttttt - gotchya. Firstly, the MOT Fail from my understanding... (and with friends who own & run garages including doing the MOTs) the issue with aftermarkets is more about the 'colour' of them. From memory I think they have to be 6000K (or 6500K). Aftermarkets aren't properly regulated and you can get far brighter than what is road legal, plus the reflectors can be a topic of concern too

Anyways, all that company is doing is basically doing the work for you and fitting aftermarket ballasts and HID bulbs for you. So you (ideally) really shouldn't mix a halogen to hid conversion with a genuine xenon.

Ok, thanks IAmOrion.
So, it seems that my OEM halogen shouldn’t be considered a solution for you, Crimson _27. So sorry.

Hmm well (and correct me if i'm wrong) the ballast is a silver box attached to the bottom of the unit, and then the main xenon beam would have a silver box (not sure the correct name sorry) type thing attached to the back of the bulb assembly. (hope this makes sense).

Yes I think you may be right and not worth risking it if a conversion as you say. A shame but i appreciate the help.
