You may find this photo of interest. It is a clipping from a 2008 issue of Aeroplane magazine that I keep in my Band of Brothers box set.

Very interesting. Has the cleared landing strip now been covered in rubbish once more?

Great photo Colin  About 15 years ago I had an interesting experience in the car park at the foot of the big gloomy mountain on the right, Liathach. My cousin and I had a great day climbing to the summit and returned to the car about 4pm soaked through and very tired. Unfortunately the car keys and alarm fob for my 328i Touring were shall we say also a little damp  It was now going dark, pelting down and we couldn't unlock the car. No phone signal either :( My cousin Matt then suggested we try to dry the alarm fob over his gas stove. It took us a very long 2 hours huddled under our coats gently BBQing the fob before we successfully unlocked the car and thankfully drove to our hotel in Ft.William. Nowadays I always put my keys in a plastic bag....just in case ! :D

No - we are driving around Wester Ross with Kinlochewe as a base, although I believe some of the roads are included in the NC500 :driving:

Unbeknown to me at the time, I drove about a third of the NC500 back in 86, a year after I got married, in my wife's 1ltr Vauxhall Nova..that was a beast!

:D
Looking at the map as you say, if you are traveling around the coast of Scotland there are so few A Roads that you are travelling parts of the NC500 whether you know it or not. We are already planning next year's Scotland trip, possibly a fortnight with the second week higher up, so taking in the second half of the NC500 if travelling clockwise :driving:
