The stars and suns and moons aligned for a get together today. The usual suspects, Scarlet-Jester and I, plus a new member BTZ461 and a friend of his with a beautiful E30 M3. Quick catch up in a cafe car park, then off to some twisty bits...
Lined up in the car park - to be fair, I was there first, then everyone else parked the other way

BTZ461's immaculate 3.0si sport, in Individual BMW colour Nacht Blue. Check out the diffuser.

With the M3 keeping it company.

Scarlet-Jester's 3.0si - the tops of his newly installed m-sport seats just visible

And my 35i being the only one on parade in step.

A nice blast up a hill then parked up for some more pics, now overlooking Lyttelton Harbour:

Really hard to catch how stunning the Nacht Blue colour looks on the E86

Carbon fibre goodies inside...

I have some more M3 pics but have run out of available upload slots for this thread. Might post some up in another - if anyone's interested?

Cars are looking great guy’s. Shame there is that great stretch of water between islands so could only be with you in spirit. Maybe one day.

Great pics Shane.
Summit Rd I do believe. Happy memories in the little Mazda2.
Can you pack a bit of that weather and send it over here.

That is a car-park at top of the road that runs from Sumner over to Lyttleton. Apparently they spent $80m NZD fixing up the Lyttleton side following the 2010-2011 earthquakes. There is a section from there that went all the way back to the other Port Hills crossing (Dyers Pass) that they are not planning on fixing. Pity really, as that was a great piece of road too

Aww man Shane, that brings back memories..
Lived there pre earth quake and during the quake of 2011.. pre we used to drive up to that same spot and have coffee/hot chockie at that cafe. Sign of the kiwi on dyers pass road.. soo awesome up there.. we did soo many Kms while living there in our little red z3m roadie. So many nice trips, so many wonderful roads and we miss it very much..
we don't miss the quakes though.. scared the s**t out of my missus while I was doing simulator in Dubai... Crazy s**t.. never the same after that.. we lived in New Brighton on the beach, just near the jetty, our flat (2nd story) had cracks in it everywhere..
I loved living there, but afterwards the roads were s**t and liquid faction was everywhere.. poor little z3m didn't have a good time after that..
we left Christmas 2011. What a great time we had there... LoveNZ.

How's the police there these days? arguments about who can accelerate fastest from 80-130mph seemed to be frowned on when I was there?

Some great memories (except the quakes...), glad you enjoyed your time here
Hope you can come back some time (no covid-19 cases for the last 3 weeks in the country, so don't bring it with you
)

Yep, speed and they'll get you. Still, plenty of open roads with not much traffic, and there's a lot of countryside for the Police to cover - depends on whether you feel like playing the odds
. I usually set the cruise control at 103 on longer trips so I don't have to worry about getting pinged. (Sadly, that's Km/h, not Mp/h
)
