Critical safety recall

The wonders of technology huh! When we would be privy to this type of information without the use of the internet.
Thanks for this and for sharing.

I know they have to contact owners of various models, which takes time but it shows that BMW wont contact owners until August of this year and whilst I appreciate the risk of one of these track rods breaking is low... it still shows as being urgent. I’m surprised there’s such a gap between them knowing and notifying owners.

Critical safety recall

I can only guess the delay may be because they don't have the parts!

I got a recall notice in the post for my E91 a couple of years ago for the heater fan resistor that had the potential to catch fire but when I called Sytner they wouldn't book it as they had no parts.

Critical safety recall

A tale from the past !!
A few years ago BMW had an issue with the rear suspension units on one particular model of their R1200 motorcycle. A notice went out to inform owners to stop riding their motorcycles immediately and await further details, over the next few days / weeks BMW registered hundreds of R1200GS models ( different suspension units ) and free issued them to owners with the affected units. This included delivery of the replacement bike and collection of the affected bike where ever it was, for one of my mates this included being in the middle of France on a touring holiday. The dealers were then storing the bikes until the repairs were carried out, it took months to sort out and then BMW sold the replacement GS models off through the dealerships.

Critical safety recall

Copied this from Bimmerpost:-
So,
Has anyone heard from BMW RE; a critical safety recall!?

I understand it affects the track rod ends of some sort. Over on another forums there’s a few cars affected, mostly the M40i it seems and one member has posted
Quote:
On the vehicle inspection report it states, QE 10032140300 it needs AT track rod repair kit reference QE sheet, which is marked in red as urgent, the highest category.
Heading to the BMW Recall Info page and entering my VIN I get this;

Rumours say there are no parts in the UK for this as yet and being a critical safety recall BMW will not return your vehicle to you if you drop it in for investigation/repair even if they don’t have the parts available.

Check yours out (UK Users can enter registration on this page

With high level safety recalls the absence of a fix is not an excuse, legally for the manufacturer, not to instruct people to cease using the product..

Has anyone checked the DVSA website to see if its listed there yet?

Outstanding vehicle recalls
Check if BMW Z4 XXXXXX has outstanding recalls

Outstanding recall found
This vehicle has been recalled since at least 2 July 2020.
Contact a BMW dealership to arrange for repairs.
If you've had the recalled component repaired recently, it can take up to 3 weeks for the manufacturer to update their records.
This information is provided by the vehicle manufacturer. If you think the information is wrong, contact the vehicle manufacturer's dealership. Please do not contact the DVSA, as we are not able to change the recall status.

Was this vehicle recall information useful to you? Tell us your views so we can improve the service.

Yeah, Swiftly put this out on a thread at end June.

Appears strange how some 2019 cars are affected and others aren't.....guess it's down to build date, and therefore that would point at BMW having changed the offending parts already, but kept it quite until now. Appears to be mainly, but not always ,the m40i ,some 20i too though.

Hopefully affected cars get fixed sooner rather than later.
