Brake squeal

Post by Bluesmobile » Mon Nov 04, 2019 3:06 pm

My new Z4 has a terrible brake squeal when I back out of the garage. The dealer as well as an independent garage tell me this is "normal", but it sure is annoying and embarrassing. One other new Z4 in our club has the same problem but two others do not. I have been told that replacing the brake pads with another type will not fix the problem. Any ideas????

I also have a brake squeal but only when braking slowly, before coming to a stop. Otherwise it's nice and quiet when coming to a stop after braking from a higher speed. My dealer has told me that it is normal for M Performance brakes, and certainly this issue is also covered on other G29 forums, but no real fix unfortunately.

Brake squeal

I have the same issue on my 335d with Msport brakes (which I assume are basically the same?)
Just the rears squeal a little bit when I back up.
Even if I've done a 100 mile journey.
But not always; seems to be a random thing.

What mileage has it done? It might be that they aren’t fully bedded in yet

Never had this problem with my G29, and I back out of the garage every time I use it.

Non MSport brakes.

This issue appears to only relate to zeds with M Sport brakes, very annoying :headbang:

Brake squeal

Post by ronfredwood » Wed Nov 06, 2019 12:14 pm

I get more of a groan starting from cold when manoeuvring first thing but disappears once on the road.
However, do other owner find the brakes very sensitive. The lightest touch is needed to brake smoothly.
I have just bought the car with 4k miles on the clock, perhaps I need some high speed braking to 'bed' the brakes in?

I found the brakes rather sensitive at first but now it seems OK, maybe they bedded in or maybe I adjusted my braking to suit the car.

I have about 2200 miles on it. Brakes are non-sport. It does go away after driving a short distance.
