Brake squeal

Post by NewZdriver » Wed Nov 06, 2019 9:37 pm

Mine is totally fine! Brakes can graunch a bit when using auto hold but it’s really not an issue! I love that feature!!

Brake squeal

Post by Z4monster » Thu Nov 07, 2019 9:37 am

Mine makes a few weird squeaks and noises when moving from reverse to drive when cold but is normally fine the rest of the time. I find the brakes OK most of the time but the auto stop/start function cuts in a little early for me when I'm stopping sometimes and makes the brakes more jerky than I'd like. Turn it off and things are generally OK. I've only got less than 2k on the car so far so it might improve as they wear in.

Have to say I’ve had no issues with brake noise at all. Only issue I have had is small stones getting trapped a couple of times in the metal brake cover plate. This issue has been covered in other posts as a few owners have had the same problem.

Brake squeal

Seems mine may have started to develop brake squeal now. After a mere 1300 miles.
I can’t see how BMW can say this normal for M sport brakes.

I agree! Mine started doing it almost immediately. Still doing it with 5000 miles on the car. Dealer has told me on several occasions that it is "normal". I'm trying to think of it as a "feature" rather than an annoying squeal! :headbang:

This sounds like the caliper not retracting quite enough allowing the pad to just touch the disc. I’m wondering if some spirited stops from speed might just get the calipers sliding just that fraction more.

Nope... wish it were that easy. I have tried that. You would think that after 5000 miles everything would be settled in, but is just as bad as ever!

Brake squeal

Mine too!
2400m on the clock and they give off quite a cacophony of squeals, squeaks and groans getting it in and out of the garage. Non Msport brakes.
Overall very over-sensitive and grabby compared with my MX5 where the brakes are much more progressive (as is the steering!!). Dare I say this......? sometimes it's a pleasure to swap back for a few days.....

Since most of the drives these days are fun rides, the sport+ and brakes get used more intensively compared to a normal workday drive.
I havent noticed this in mine (yet) i"m currently at 11.000 miles. It would probably have been nearly tripple that without corona.

Mine is the same 3500 miles. Only noisy when coming out of garage but don’t hear it at any other time

Mine do it occasionally when creeping.

Nothing like my Abarth though who constantly squeal.
Think it has more to do with modern performance brake pads.
