Every new car hemorrages money Ron, but the important thing is the enjoyment it brings you (unless you want to sell shortly in which case you're stuffed) :P

I agree, the value falls like a stone - I bought my car financed from a share sale - I sold at £5.23 whithin a month of me taking delivery they'd shot up to £6.80 but at my age why worry about a bit of cash?

As you say, the enjoyment of the car comes first!
It will be interesting to see just what impact the new model has. E89s were available with some truly epic discounts in the last few years of production which will have already impacted the used and nearly new models etc. That coupled with the 2 to 3 year gap in age between the last of the E89s and the first of the G29s makes this situation somewhat different than when say Bmw replaces a 3 series with a brand new model. Usually there's is only a few months lag between production of one stopping and the new one hitting production and end of life discounts on 3 series never normally get to anything like what we saw with the E89.

All in all the E89 values may come out of the model change much better than the norm.

I guess time will tell.

Exactly OP, you don't generally buy a new car towards the end of the production cycle and expect it to appreciate!

It's much more important that you got exactly what you wanted!

I think where BMW end up pricing the new model will be major factor in relation to E89 values - if they get ambitious I can't see it having a big effect, but only time will tell.

In the meantime just keep enjoying your best of the last. :driving:

An E89 price drop will be great news for anyone looking to get their hands on one right now. And as has been said above, for existing owners, cars aren't something you expect to appreciate in value. Anybody who has an E89 and was planning to sell or trade in the next 12 months or so is likely to take a hit.

I don't think there's going to be any horror stories, in the future the e89 will be looked on as the "difficult" second album and will still be appreciated by enthusiasts of the breed :P

I do wonder if some E89 models will get hit more than others, my experience that rarer models tend to hold their price better
Supra twin turbo, great in a straight, rubbish around twistys
NSX, pretty cool but no heated seats and can't get top down
Z4 23i sdrive, now gone, got the wrong car, need more power.
Z4 35is loved and missed
Z4 M40i one word sums it up Wow!

Two other factors that will hit e89s longterm are the cars perceived reliability with the buying public and the massive over supply in the genrral used car market. This is mainly due to pcps and cheap finance but all of the problems that this is storing up are about to hit hard. Even tge bank of england is worried about this and publically waring of impending doom.

Absolutely that's what drew me to the Z4 to ditch the hard top would in my opinion be lunacy . I have seen prices quoted of £60 grand plus for a 35i .at this level the used market for E89 will flourish.

I think the hard v soft top is probably 50:50 to be honest. It's one reason (of several) why I would never consider an E89 so I'm glad they've ditched it for the new model.

You not a fan of the hard fold top OG ? Would have thought a svelte move for a ZMC owner looking to step up :) :P
