What I want to know is how they know it's a BMW?!

I would make a guess that it's going to be a platform share with a new Lexus cabriolet. Looks like quite a big car to me and Toyota are possibly going to make a roadster smaller than the GT86.

So I think it will be a more up market platform shared with Lexus.

How do they know it's a BMW?

It looks decidedly bland & uninteresting.

Smaller turbo'd engines are "the future" apparently, so we may not see a 6 at all.

It would make our E85/86/89's more desirable in my opinion though.

I didnt think it looked that interesting either. I know the pattern is supposed to disguise the lines of the car but the silhouette doesnt make it look special.
I think going from owning a hard top to a soft top is like a backward step and I wouldnt do it.

I know it's only a test car but it does look a bit dull reminds me of a Toyota celica , I hope the final one looks nothing like this .what a shame :(

Registration plate first Letter is "M" - Munich (München)

Rear Lights simular (same) to the first pictures of the Z4 E89 in January 2007.

Here you can compare the pictures:

The simple answer is probably because they saw it come out of the BMW compound...

Along with a number of other manufacturers, BMW have a cold weather testing facility in Arjeplog, Sweden - all their test cars are kept in BMW's secure compound and the photographers see them driven out and can follow/get pics etc.

Judging by the light positions which I doubt they would disguise it looks very similar in size to an E89 to me, which is a surprise as I thought they'd go smaller as an alternative to the MX5, especially as fairly big engines are out of favour.

Be interesting to see it in sales spec.

Don't fancy a soft top - too easy to cut into and steal from. That does look like a temporary roof though (no back window!) so maybe there's still hope.

Other sites talk of 3, 4 and 6 cylinder engines - I doubt any news site really knows.

Nobody really knows the specs, and there could be anything under that camo - I bet it looks nothing like that when it's done. I just hope to god they let Alpina and the M division loose on this one...

Maniac - they don't know, it could be a Toyota :P

Interesting. Working with Toyota is a new one. The gt86 is god awful and slow.
