Advice on feature priorities when new car arrives.
So, car should be here tomorrow, late morning/early afternoon.
This is my first BMW (car) and spec wise it appears to have every pack except the lighting pack. I've went through the manual and there is a lot to learn feature wise, so looking for advice/suggestions on what I should concentrate on first, apart from obviously driving the car of course.
I'm thinking first thing to do is connect iphone, am I correct in thinking I don't need a wired connection for Apple carplay?
Have already downloaded the MY BMW app and will set that up.
After that, set up seat positions and save?
Anything else you guys suggest I set up asap?

I think I'd sort out seats, steering wheel, getting comfortable first.Scubaregs wrote: ↑Mon Jul 05, 2021 1:49 pm So, car should be here tomorrow, late morning/early afternoon.

Then look at all the driver aids and switch off those that are too 'nanny-state' for you. The lane departure is a pain in the ass if yours has that! (Maybe you'll like it though?)
Be sure you know all the relevant controls, beeps and warnings.
Then go and drive it!
Personally I'd start to think about the phone some time about November.

Lol, seats mirrors etc will be done before driving. I can see me switching off the lane departure warning though.
I test drove a 20i, be interesting to see how the 30i compares, although I know it won't match my old 718 Boxster.
Thanks for the input.

Congrats on new car.
I would set up driver profile so that you can save your settings.
Setup how you want the car to lock unlock. I always had it lock on walking away and unlock on approach.
Enjoy the car! Post pictures.

Thanks ori, makes sense.
Fiancée says she will drive the Z4, so makes sense to each have a coded key set up. However.........she never drove the Porsche, despite being offered, so we will see.

Makes sense to switch off the lane departure, being in Paisley you spend half the time straddling the white lines to avoid the pot holes

A couple of comments...
- I originally turned off lane departure as being annoying. After I go use to my car, I turned it on for a road trip and suddenly found that I liked it. I agree, turn it off first but try it in a couple of months.
- When setting up lock/unlock, I have unlock turned on but turned off automatic lock. Why? There were three reasons...
* Every time I would walk by my car in the garage, it would lock/unlock and I found that annoying.
* I could not leave the top down in my garage because the cat would jump in the car and set off the alarm.
* I've been taking my car to "Cars and Coffee" and found it a pain to turn off automatic locking just for the show.

Car wont fit in garage and even if it did, bike's in there.
Don't have a cat and Fiancée is too old to jump in and out.
Fair point.

Apple carplay is wireless. Press and briefly hold the voice command button on the steering wheel and it will setup.

This goes to advance settings, but I purchased Bimmercode and a dongle to change a couple of settings...
- I turned off Active Sound.
- I set Auto Start/Stop to remember the last setting.
(I also plan to turn off some of the warnings but haven't done it yet).

Mark, I take it you needed the software and dongle to set Auto Start/Stop to last setting?

Yes to both. Sofware (Bimmercode) cost me about $32 and dongle $40 (vLinker BM+).
