Accidental handbrake

Post by ori » Tue Apr 06, 2021 12:00 am

Anyone else accidentally pull on the handbrake instead of the open roof while driving?
Never happened on my previous zed due to button location, but I’ve done it twice now and it gives you one hell of a shock!

Nope, can’t say I’ve done that.
I wish the handbrake would automatically come on, once you stop and switch the car off.
Audi, Merc and others all do it, BMW’s don’t.

Yep, I once pulled the handbrake switch instead of the roof. I was going very slow in a car park but it was a bit of a shock.

It does with auto hold on. I think it does it without auto hold after a certain amount of time away from the vehicle.
    I can’t stand auto hold.

Ah that’s a bit different though and yet another button to press.
I’m not a fan of auto hold either.

I did this in my Audi TTS, it definitely gives you a shock!
Not done it in the Z4 yet but I can see how easily it happens, given the location of the roof button.

My previous commute used to be a 100 mile round trip every day through several towns and depending on my shift you could be in rush hour traffic. The auto hold was a necessity in that kind of driving. Indeed it was an option on Audi (everything is on them) and a hard to find one at that. Took me ages to find the right S3 and the TTS with it. So glad the Z4 comes with it.

No... Because I know they are next to eachother i look first before I pull :-D
I always wondered with the automatic handbrake button, if it would work if you pull it while driving, so I guess that is a yes :P

It works like an emergency stop. It will bring the car to a halt as long as the lever remains being activated and flash the hazard lights as it comes to a complete stop. Allows the passenger to bring the car to a halt in an emergency situation where the driver is incapacitated.

I did this by mistake a couple of days ago. Pulled the handbrake switch instead of the roof switch :headbang: That’s the only time I have made this mistake in the two years since I bought the car. In fact, it was two years ago today when I took delivery. Happy birthday to my car. 😁👍

I was trying to understand how this was possible until I looked at the interior of the G29.
Maybe the roof switch should have been put in a different place like it is with the E89 to avoid this mistake.
Considering it looks like it is activated in the same way as the ebrake makes an accidental pull inevitable.

If you are not concentrating it’s very easy to do. As I said, it has only happened to me once in two years - and my attention was elsewhere at the time. :D
