BMW Service Plan

Post by John H100 » Fri Sep 18, 2020 5:39 pm

Just had a quote of £900, this includes;

A basic oil and filter service and aircon fiter
A major service, oil and filter, spark plugs, air filter, brake fluid change, air con filter.
1 MOT
7 Seasonal Health Checks
2 Map updates.

I like to stick to main dealers as I would hope, as has been the case in the past, a full dealer history leads to a contribution to any repairs needed when the car is out of warranty, I tend to keep cars for around 6 years.

Am I correct in assuming at £900 the plan does make financial sense.

Regards all

John

From our local dealer, Coopers (shortly changing its name to Inchcape) in Malton.

Not sure if they have it in the UK but i have a maintenance contract with bmw, you pay monthly 100euro or something and then all the maintenance / repairs and replacement cars are free. There are some exclusions, like new brakes and tires. I think it comes through bmw financial services.

I already made my money back for the next 5 years this year LOL, i think out of the 10months i have the car it has been at least 1month at the dealership. Easily 2500+ euro in replacement cars that i did not have to pay and probably about the same or more in work hours :)

That sounds more like the extended warranty which is available here also.

When I bought mine, the salesperson told me that she wouldn't try to get me to buy this as it wasn't worth it overall. I tend to agree as in 3 years ownership I only needed two services and all the rest of the stuff is just filler. The services are nowhere near £450 each so they are overcharging for what you can pay for individually. The seasonal check-ups are exactly that. They do almost nothing of value apart from telling you that stuff is reaching end of life and then quoting for a replacement at Main Dealer prices. It's not a bad idea if you want to spread your costs but for me, the less time my car spends at the dealers, the better.

This raises the question; what cost are people finding or expecting for the service costs generally?

As on the BMW Service website it quotes just shy of £600 for "Engine oil service with microfilter, air filter & spark plugs"

Hi yes, First post on forum, just coughed £900 for plan. Good to just bank it and forget it for a few years.

My first service is due in January or 16,000 miles... I wonder which will be sooner
I’m wondering what to do about servicing as they seem to be very expensive.

With our C Class Merc, they signed me up to a plan, which seemed to make sense as the first service was about £300 but the guy warned me that the second one would be closer to £700. Absolutely extortionate but that’s what it is. So we pay £38.00 a month to cover it.

I wonder what BMW will suggest come service time as they’ve now stopped doing service packs via BMW UK now and it’s down to the individual dealers.

Before corona i did 1000+km /week so for me it made sense having a fixed service cost since I had 2-3 maintenances per year with my previous car.
Now its more like 50km/week :(

You’ll have to let me know which of our locals you use and what they say come Jan 😉

Likely to be Guildford as they seem to be OK so far. I’ll keep you posted.

In my experience the cost of a service plan has always been higher than the costs of the individual services themselves. You could argue that a plan covers you against a rise in service costs and it gives you a monthly payment option but when I purchased my G29 the salesman told me that a service plan wasn't worth having.
