Key missing

Post by bonzo » Tue Aug 27, 2019 10:18 am

Hi,

I've had my Z4 for nearly a week now and am experiencing an occasional issue where I can't lock the car using the key. The display tells me that the key is 'missing' so I have to start the car and turn off which allows me to lock the car. It also tells me to place the key next to an area on the steering column.

I'd say this is happening in 1 of every 10 lock attempts.

Anyone else experiencing this?

I don't have comfort access so always need to use the key to lock, but no problems encountered.

Do you have a profile set-up? I'm wondering if this is causing an issue?

I do have a profile configured but I wouldn't expect this to be the cause of an intermittent issue.

A response above has suggested it may be a battery problem and another thread in the forum may back this up.

I'll keep tabs on it and report back.

Do you have another key?
If so, does this do the same thing?
This may help to isolate a fob battery issue.

If the key fob battery was needing replaced a warning would come up on the dashboard when you start up the engine. :)
