Always funny to see a review where the reviewer owns one of the cars...... :sly2:

G29 Vs E89 Review.

I like the guy , he's always enthusiastic , fluent & easy to watch which regardless of technical knowledge ( or car he owns  ) helps me stay tuned while other similar reviews doesn't .
I didn't see anything of the G29 that makes me want or think it will be a future purchase , i still think its going to be a expensive exercise for Bmw & wonder how long they will stick with it .
Perhaps sales overseas will be a surprise ? i really can't see significant numbers selling here until the figures get aligned with reality

I watched his 'one year of owning the Z4' or something similar where he reviewed his car after a period of ownership and I thought it was quite good. As said above, he's enthusiastic and enjoys his car.
I think he needs to let go of the thought that the E89 is 'current' and the G29 'new' - once the G29 was released the E89 joined the E85/E86 on the 'old model' heap  .

So how long before we all start calling for the E89 to be granted classic status and salted away under a cover in an oxygen tent, for our grand kids to enjoy, once they are worth millions.

If anything increases the value of E89's, now's a good time for me :D

G29 Vs E89 Review.

Well i had a sit in one yesterday (Soper Lincoln), coming from my beige interior E89 to an all black interior the car seemed very claustrophobic.
Certainly looking back the rear window is very narrow and the switch gear is made for younger eyes, i initially couldn't make out what was what with the row of silver switches and i think it would be easy to press the wrong buttons with my fat fingers. The seats seemed similar to the F Type seats i saw later that day.
The front bumper didn't stick out as much as it appears on pictures and grew on me in the flesh.
But i only know of the car because of my E89. I probably otherwise wouldn't have given it a second glance on the street.

It was interesting to see the two side by side in the same colour.
I may be biased but the front end looked a lot better on the E89 and it still looked modern.
The rear of the G29 definately looks better than the E89 but it looks huge.
The interior is another step up.
But the fact it is now a soft top will make it very difficult to find a car to replace our E89 when/if the time comes.

Why exactly? I don't think a soft top would really put me off, what is it about them you don't like?

I've had 2 different hard-top and 3 soft-top convertibles and much prefer the hard-top ones, even in moderate climates like LA. There's the noise difference, ease of cleaning hard-top vs cloth, and the greater risk of damage/vandalism with a soft-top. Hard top also feels safer, although that's mostly psychological these days, I suppose.

Its not necessarily that I dont like soft tops, I just dont really want one if there is an alternative.
I dont particularly think that they look as good and considering where we stay the roof is up more than it is down.
As its a daily its not like it only comes out on nice days where you wouldnt see the soft top.
The security aspect also comes into play even though these days you dont really hear of soft tops being slashed.
