Why M40i

Post by flybobbie » Sat Apr 06, 2019 9:40 pm

Saw what looked like Series 1 today with M40i on the boot.
Has it got to do with engine size?

And seen my first G29, black, sailed past barely made any noise.
Quick glance you would think it was a Merc.
Don't think it would turn heads like the E89 does.

I think the 1 Series would have had M140i on the boot!

It's no longer anything to do with engine size - that'll have a 3 litre straight 6 with a turbo, the same as the G29 M40i.
Coupes because stunning!

Mine has M240i, again it's not engine size, currently just denotes that it is a 3ltr using the B58 type engine.

Anything with the B58 is great ... M140i, M240i, X3 M40i, Z4 M40i ... the engine is superb !

I love my M240i convertible after my Z4's but it doesn't have the same special feeling. I may look at the Z4 M40i in detail again or the X3 M40i.
Current : BMW M240i Convertible in black and a Smart Fortwo diesel in white :)

Yeah, like the m535i from 1985

I think most carreviewers at least are more positive about the g29 than the e89 when it was launched.

Its marketing madness gone into overload  whats wrong with a simple badge designating what the car is .
"X3 3.0t" if its a 3 litre turbo would work well :P or even add a ///M if its a M car  but don't think its only Bmw at it , oh no , anyone tried understanding the latest Audi badge system ? forget it  now that is utter nonsense :D apparently if you buy for eg a Q2 1.6Tdi the boot boadge will be Q2 30Tdi designating it has between 107hp & 127hp :? or say a A5 40T  yea that must be a 4.0 litre turbo , , , errr no , its a 2.0 litre with between 165hp & 197hp power

Yes...!! Last night me and my mate walked back to check we weren’t seeing things in shoreditch last night , an A1 with a 30tsi badge. Really, wtf!?

M badges , let’s not even bother getting started about one of the biggest brand dilutions going. It’s embarrassing, even Clarkson had a moan on one of his recent GT episodes. At least merc restrain themselves and only write it on your car mats and alloys when you spec your diesel (I loved my E class with said mats  )

At least Audi recognise that the old engine capacity model definition has gone with the advent of mainstream turbocharging and smaller engines. Regardless as with BMW and Mercedes the higher the number after the model designation, the more BHP/performance/expensive the car has/is

Doesn't make a lot of sense. In the past I had Sdrive 23i (2.5 litre straight 6), then a Sdrive 28i (2.0 litre 4 pot turbo).

Also they feel pretty different. I had a 68-plate M240i directly before my Z4 M40i. The 2 felt more 'on edge' compared to the Z4, which is more GT like. The actual performance is pretty much the same but the delivery isn't.

I saw one of those last week and thought Audi had made a REALLY cool car for a moment! I Googled it as I walked by, and quickly realised it's just another badge that means absolutely nothing
