It’s overpriced. But most new cars are silly money now.

That said I got an offer through yesterday for an M140i . PCP, £10k dealer/manufacturer contribution takes the car to £27k

That’s shocking value compared to the new Z4 which has the same engine etc at £47k

£20k cos it’s newer tech, two seats less and a folding roof? Make your choice...

If you're after a roadster then a 1 series won't do
A bit like a 3.0si z4 or 130i, one is just a 1 series

Its interesting and a bit deja vu..

What's emerging seems to be amongst other issues is balance...

The 40i is too heavy on the nose /too powerful..
The 20i is nicely balanced but a little gutless
The 30i ? could be the best trade off..??

On the E89s the journos (and me) came to the same conclusion..

In the UK the 28i was never pushed on road tests..if that had been the launch press view, life may have been different?

I think this 50/50 weight thing is a load of b@[email protected] view..

How can two cars one with a 4 pot lighter weight have the same weight distribution as a pot heavier engine in the same place?

Surely its also only 50/50 weight distribution when its sitting still.
When its accelerating the weight goes to the rear, when it brakes it goes to the front, so as you say does it really matter that much.

To be pedantic the weight remains the same, the moments of inertia change based on locations from the centre of moment, their masses and the rate of change..

However your end point is valid . which is a heavy lump moving upsets the handling..if the M40i is 135kgs heavier than the 20i and a lot of it is in the engine bay its going to have to cope with more moment of inertia around the front end when compared to the 20i..

dissertation ends..

Well they were trying to be fair, but clearly the car does not float the reviewers boat. The last line said it all. Well that and the 3.5 stars, for what should be right up EVO's street. :(
