Yep, I know the taxes in Sweden are horrendous on performance cars, it's quite rare to see nice cars there because of it compared to what we have in the UK.

You have a lot better looking women though to make up for it

If I had 55k to spend and it ‘had’ to be a convertible, R8 V10 Spyder. Easy decision.

I'm most likely going to get one in 4 years time when they're less than half the price.

Williams Stockport were offering brand new m3/4s for £550pm with 5k down... pcp obvs

Do the math tho... 53k 60k with finance over 3 years with a final trade in value of 30k after that period is roughly £850 depreciation per month which is more than the monthly payments... :headbang: Plus you only get 8k miles per year... so the car will only have 24k on it when you trade it.

The PCP ended up a little more expensive.

For comparison in the showroom was a 66 plate M2 with 2k miles on the clock. £61k list now £38k at 30 months or £23k depreciation which is £766pm and thats retail I bet they didnt get much more than 30k for it as a trade in. The Salesmen also told me it was a buy back so I be it was even less!

Thats a full fat M car not an M40...

The new Z4 is lovely in the flesh but you have to be slightly mad to sign up to that right?

I went to Halliwell Jones Warrington on Saturday to have a butchers at the new model in the skin.

Liked it lots and thought the red and blue colours were much better in person than on the photo's I'd seen.

However, there is no deals on the car for a while so it's list price all the way, according to my friendly salesperson.

On that basis, I'm OOT! for now at least.

They did have a magnificent M4 Competition in bright green which has made me a bit twitchy. Always fancied an M4 but the roof doesn't come off.
Decisions decisions!

It’s great that we’re all different and our taste, wants and desires varies, there’s just so many cars out there that offer something for everyone..

So I managed to get a good drive in the M40 variant on Monday and boy it really is a great car, very tempted once the discounting starts. Interesting points from the drive, there’s a very satisfying bark from the exhaust on engine start, it’s quite wide, same width as the new 5 series, the steering is way better than mine and the e89, it’s on Michelin Super Sports, the driving position is superb and the seats are both comfortable and supportive. HUD is just brilliant and definitely worth having as part of that must have tech pack. Car is quiet when tootling along a country lane doing 60 and relaxing too, certainly no louder than mine given the fabric roof and the 19” wheels, ride is significantly better than my old e89 as is the feel.

The car was in Frozen grey, which is gorgeous, but ridiculously expensive and impossible to match if you damage it, the demonstrator was a 2.0 in red with the sport plus package and it just doesn’t do it for me, exaggerating that marmite grill, whereas the M40 just looks so much better, it’s rear more pleasing with a better diffuser and those trapezium exhausts give a great soundtrack (alledgedly a more sporting note than any of the other M40i models)

Yes I like it, infact I like it a lot, very tempted indeed

Oh did I not mention the engine, what a fabulous beast of a thing it is, why would you buy the four pot when you could have this

But you can’t get the M2 with the wind in your hair option :D

The sales guy on Monday, stated that 3 out of 5 cars are returned to the dealer after the PCP finishes or VT’d before. Looking at his sales since January, of the 100 or so cars sold by him, one was bought cash (X5) all the rest were PCP’s, even some one buying an M850.....

Now that I’ve got use of a second car, I’m not sure I want to spend another £30k over four years and having nothing to show at the end of it

Nice aren’t they Sars.

However, one thing holding me back is a lingering niggle in my mind that it might become too familiar too soon, it’s a very easy car to use which might be its downfall. I can’t imagine a 718 being lacking in fun, familiar maybe but something you’re eager to get into time after time.

Just a thought.

I think that can be said about most cars, if you drive them all the time, familiarity becomes the norm. The thing I love about my car is it’s so easy, then press the sport button/manual and it’s a different beast, admittedly it’s no sports car but it still brings a smile to my face when I trounce a hot hatch at the lights. I think the Z4 M40 is very similar but with a better driving position.

I have to drive 220 miles in a go, twice a week, I want something that cossets when it’s raining cats and dogs on the M5, but can enthrall me on a drive to the Yorkshire Dales for a Sunday walk

You have to decide what’s important for you, if you want something that excites every time you drive it, you’ll soon be wanting something more comfortable for the run down to Waitrose.

You’ve a great choice either way

One thing I want to know is if they will have the same problems with the roof motors with it being a fabric roof this time. I asked the sales guy and he hadn't a clue, so will be watching closely.

Maybe someone can make sense of these diagrams on RealOEM and see what the build is like for this. Looks like there is a drain and water outlet for the roof, but not sure where that goes from there http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showpar ... Id=41_3116

I think it might be electrically instead of hydraulically actuated now. Essentially a "dry system". See http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showpar ... 4347434511
