Supra and G29. What goes on during negotiations
I get the whole 'sharing to cut development costs' thing. But Toyota are reviving the Supra name and making a coupe. BMW are sort of hoping that they are competitive in the 2 seater roadie market. Were BMW just playing it safe? The Supra doesn't look like Toyota played it safe. The Supra looks like Toyota wanted a statement. BMW not so. I supose its the market you are aiming for with the money you need to buy the damn things.

Funnily enough the prices look to be the same as BMW.
I wonder if this was something else that had to happen, if Toyota had the car £10k less they would sell more making the BMW look bad.

Eh, are we looking at the same prices? Z4 M40i is £49,050 and the Supra is £52,695 so it's almost £4k more! I thought the Supra would cost a lot less given it's a Coupe...
Also I reckon the difference will be bigger when you level out the specs, as the Supra 'Pro' comes in at £54,000. The Z4 M40i with Driving Assist Pack has all the kit from the Supra Pro and more at £49,950
Notice also the Supra seems to be using iDrive 6 with a slightly older HUD and climate control unit, so it's clear BMW are holding back the latest technology for the Z4.
I was genuinely worried this would've made me regret my Z4 M40i order if it was a lot cheaper but I'm now not worried at all. Still will be interesting to see how the two compare on the road

The Z4 will be much more of a sports cruiser than the Supra which, if Toyota are doing what they set out to do, will be a rougher and tougher sports car with a more track-ready set-up. From what I've read anyway...

I think you’ve pretty much said it. Interesting that two cars based on the same chassis can have such different positioning, although I guess it’s commonplace these days.Trav wrote: ↑Mon Jan 14, 2019 8:35 pm I get the whole 'sharing to cut development costs' thing. I’m interested to see what the JDM reception is.

My guess is that the z4 will outsell the supra 3:1 or more.

The GR Supra costs £52,650 but that includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Adaptive Headlights and Smart Entry, none of which are in the basic M40i spec. It is not possible to get an exact match in specs but it would cost £52,500 to get as close as you can get, so the prices are near enough the same.J400uk wrote: ↑Mon Jan 14, 2019 9:07 pmEh, are we looking at the same prices? The GR Supra Pro costs £54,000 and that adds JBL Stereo (12 speakers), Head Up Display and Wireless Phone Charging. Again, to get as close to this spec as possible the M40i would cost £53,400, ie £600 less than the GR Supra Pro.

As I said in my previous post, the prices are very similar comparing like for like specs, However, for my money I prefer the open top Z4 over the Coupe style GR Supra. I am now glad that I went ahead and placed my order for the Z4 before seeing the details of the new Supra.
