I don't think that's the case at all....almost all of us on here are huge BMW fans, and probably most would want the car to be a stunner, giving them something to lust for to upgrade either now, or in the future.

My personal view is that BMW has entered a terrible fussy design phase (the new 3 series looks bloody horrendous)...and contrast this to Mercedes who have returned to classic lines and minimal styling. Their current range it spot on! Never thought I'd be saying that. :?

Totally agree.
Mostly interiorwise, a bit fuzzy in my eyes while Mercedes has gone pure minimalistic.
What's SLS AMG GT's BMW rival? i8? Which is a good car in its own right but..
I also really like Audi's interior concept as well.
Maybe a bit controversial statement but the last true good looking BMW for me is the jaw dropping 1M.

“I don't like the new nose”

“dunno-looks like it's on stilts or something. Needs to be lowered a couple inches. Doesn't look as proportionate as the current Z4, either. Meh, I'll pass”.

“Fussy. Too many scoops and lines”.

“until i can see one in person, i'll try to choke back the little bit of vomit that just came up.”

“Don't know about you guys, but every time BMW release an updated model my first impression about the looks is pretty lukewarm and I usually prefer the previous version.”

“From what i can see i dont mind the headlights and grill look more agressive which i think the Z4 needed on the front end but not liking the rest not so muscular looking but as said above need to see one in the flesh.”

“The old one is much more pretty if you ask me”

“not sure if i like how tall the rear fenders are, almost 612 like, but not working. Guess I'll have to see it uncovered in person to truly judge”

“Mmm - not sure myself
Looks too high at the back, to the roof in the new pics.”

“I've only just looked at these pics in detail for the first time. Is it just me or does the new Z4 look at bit.....strange?”

Not about to go trawling the forum for quotes. However my own Perception of how the e89 was and still is viewed, by most here, is that:- The front end looks better, more stylish, than the simple nose of the E85/86 and that the back lost something and is far more mainstream/plain. Just my observations from spending far too much of my time here? :)
The g29 appears to have reversed that once again. Alas in a Disney characture kind of way.

So far I've only spotted 2 (new) members on here that have committed to buying the G29... and good luck to them both, I hope they enjoy the new Z4 experience. :) The amount of bitchy comments on here is quite staggering... and if new owners decide not to post their experiences of the G29 it would be easy to understand why.

Beauty is always in the eye, so I wouldn’t be put off with posting anything....Jesus, the amount of people I’ve come across who comment negatively about the Z4MC saying it’s weird and ugly. It’s better to have a car that people dislike and find strange. My Audi TT never gets a second look good or bad...

So if the new Z is ace and you hardly see another on the road then more power to the new owners...makes it a cooler car from the off...!

From a looks point of view, how can larger overhangs and more bulk above the wheelarches be a good thing? I think its lost something. Although I am sure it will drive very well and look ok in the flesh. Maybe the needs of a different market. They are not trying to please uk buyers as we simply wont buy enough of them anyway.

To be fair though how many members who were on here with E85/86s bought the E89 when it was launched?
There might not have been many and maybe the new model brought new members.
Could be the same with this.
The other thing is cost, how much do you think the average member has spent buying their Z4? It could be as low as £10k which puts a £50k car out of most members reach.

^^ This ^^
It will be interesting to come back to this thread in 5 years and see how the G29 has done once depreciation and mileage has brought the cost down to a wider market, and the early adopters/trailblazers have come up with mods/changes to improve the ownership experience (e.g. the CDV delete, ZHP's etc for E85/86).

Happy New Year to you too Z4 Beemer.
I am one of the few BMW fans on the forum who actually quite likes the new G29 and have ordered an M40i for March 2019 delivery.
I did own one of the last E89's in 2016 for about 8 months and really enjoyed it. The only reason I sold it was to buy a new 5 series and traded in my Z4 to get it.
However, since I sold the E89 I have missed the open top fun and will be trading in my 5 series in the spring to get the new Z4. My wife has an SUV so that will be our practical daily use car and the Z4 will be for day trips and a bit of fun in the sun. We are both retired and I just love BMW's as you can see from my list of cars below that I have owned over the years.
Current: 2019 Z4 M40i (G29)
Previous BMW's (all new):
2017 520d MSport xDrive (G30)
2016 Z4 20i sDrive SE (E89)
2014 428i MSport Gran Coupe (F36)
2009 530d SE Gran Turismo (F07)
2007 525d SE (E60 LCI)
2005 523i SE (E60)
2002 320d SE (E46)
1982 520i (E28)
