Happy New Year everyone.
I am one of the few BMW fans on the forum who actually quite likes the new G29 and have ordered an M40i for March 2019 delivery.
I did own one of the last E89's in 2016 for about 8 months and really enjoyed it. The only reason I sold it was to buy a new 5 series and traded in my Z4 to get it.
However, since I sold the E89 I have missed the open top fun and will be trading in my 5 series in the spring to get the new Z4. My wife has an SUV so that will be our practical daily use car and the Z4 will be for day trips and a bit of fun in the sun. We are both retired and I just love BMW's as you can see from my list of cars below that I have owned over the years.

Can't argue with your logic there. The designers make em as good-looking as they can, within there constraints. The engineer's make em safe, go stop and turn, as well as they can within their constraints. Then the marketing team pick groups of folk like us and tell the others to change bits and bobs, so they appeal to as many different groups as possible. One thing they may never be able to change. Designing a car from the ground up to an open top makes em fun. And a happy new year.

Sure. It isn’t available until March and they’ve just spent millions on tooling costs. I wouldn’t hold your breath!

Congratulations Jim S on ordering the new G29 I’m sure you will love it. Like you I like the look of the car and if I had a spare 40/50k to spare wouldn’t hesitate in buying one. My wife and I are also retired to but I doubt she would be too keen on us selling up in France just so I could replace the E89!Jim S wrote: ↑Mon Dec 31, 2018 11:13 pm

Sadly there will always be those who don’t like change and can find fault in any new design. Ignore them and enjoy your new car come March.
I also found a photograph of the car in red which to my eyes looks stunning. But I’ve always had a soft spot for red cars after buying my first Morgan many moons ago.

Thanks Tinker15. You are correct, many people just don’t like change. I think BMW have been very brave with this design and only time will tell if it is a success. For me, I do like it a lot, hence the reason for splashing out a considerable amount of cash to own one. Let’s hope that I can manage to keep hold of it longer than my history of car buying shows.
A Happy New Year to you and all of the forum members.

This was my previous Z4 (E89). A lot of people did not like this model either. I loved it and it gave me a great deal of pleasure in spite of the fact that I only kept it for 8 months.

That’s my little granddaughter in the first photo. She liked it a lot too.
