I'd agree a lot with that. One of the frustrating design elements is the fact they didn't incorporate the door handle into the design line like they did on the e85....a simple thing but could have easily been done.

Yes, the end result is a rather disappointing comparison. The rear end in side profile bears more than a passing resemblance to the E89. Missed opportunity maybe? - sales numbers will be the judge. Perhaps BMW decided to to go with something that was easier to build and could deliver a profit on relatively slender volumes.

Agree on the rear end but I wonder if the concept had no crash protection and obviously the production car has hence the heavier looking rear perhaps?

Unfortunately it happens often. Manufacturers release awesome looking concepts which get us all excited, then let us down with the production model. They're just asking for negative comments IMO.

The big loss for me is the sharknose. Will any one release an aftermarket bumper based on the concept profile ?

To be honest I don’t think they look that far apart. Quite a few of the design cues have made it into the final car. The front end is blunter, and the rake on the windscreen is less, the wing mirrors are different. But as John says, I assume a concept car doesn’t have to go through all of the rigorous crash testing, and so they can just ignore things they’d normally have to account for. Also, the angles of those shots are just a tiny bit different, which seems to have had a large impact on the comparison. Really interesting to see both side by side like that though.

I still worry what the lower range styling is going to look like though, without all the M sport angles and trim. It has the potential to look utter shite.

If that concept car made it through to production, obviously with added tweaks, I for one would be considering to part with my 3.5is. Alas that is not the case, however the interior I do like!

I'm interested in one of these, I've already talked with the local dealer and we are waiting for September 19 when more info will be released.

I''ll be looking to change my 4 series next spring so the timing should be about right. I need to get back to a sports roadster after 2 years in the 4 series, great motor but not much fun!

Considered a Porsche Boxster but decided against it after a test drive recently, I didn't like ride or the noise, and Porsche isn't exactly value for money in my opinion.

Biggest difference for me is the size of the wheels!

Lose the busy front end with the Ferrari nose and the backwards mirrors and that looks really cool.

If they manage to release that car which is 95% of that concept it'll add even more shame on BMW for their watered down version. The video of this with Jay Leno was interesting, the guys seem to think a lot of this is making the final production car.
