It was growing on me at the weekend but not anymore. There's just nothing about this car that appeals to me.

The more I see it the worse it gets!

If this bombs what will everybody blame it on?
Will it be its looks or that its went back to a soft top?
I know Skelters will disagree with this but I think that the E89 just needed tweaked a little to make it a new car and calm those who wanted a soft top.
If the front and rear bumpers and lights were updated/changed and the boot lid reshaped, then add in the new interior. Two models could have been made to suit owners who liked either a soft top or a folding hard top along with a coupe version although that would have been a little pointless.

Not pointless at all. The last Mx5 had two models as you describe. Mrs G is searching the classifieds for a flip top lid one, as I write. :D  It will be her daily, so the lid makes sense. My Zed is a week end toy, so the lighter rag bag suits it's role better. 8)

Sorry I meant a coupe version would be pointless.

History suggest a Coupe may well be hiding in the pipe line. Just hope here is a real ///M hiding in there too

Will it be its looks or that its went back to a soft top? Soft Top. Has anyone noticed the size of the blind spot between the edge of the driver / passenger windows and the rear window?

I know Skelters will disagree with this but I think that the E89 just needed tweaked a little to make it a new car and calm those who wanted a soft top. Where to start? Be easier designing a new car and look what they came up with!

There's also the whole Fiat front / SLK bits / Alpha GTV in places / and of course the <Insert BMW Series Here> back end.

The height of the boot too. WTF?!

BMW, If anyone reads this (and we know you keep tabs on owner forums) What the hell were you thinking? Designed by committee for the Facebook generation? Take all the good parts of other manufacturers designs and throw them together? Don't be surprised if it doesn't it the expected targets.

It's so bad that I was even looking at Volvo Estates online today.

This previous rendering looks better to me. Yes it's E85 hips at the back and updated E89 front but it's certainly better than whatever the G29 looks like so far.

I think the driving video shows it off a little better.

Interior doesnt look as special, the e89 Z4 interior was quite unique to BMW, based on the Z8.

But it has grown on me.

Still would have to see it in person!

I already liked the frozen gray one. It looks even better when it is on the move. I'm curious how metallic paint looks on the G29.

I didn’t look at it and think, ‘I want one’. There is something not quite right about the lines. Looking along the bottom line it steps up behind the rear wheels and doesn’t really flow. I suppose it is just personal taste and others may love it. The interior looks OK. Like everyone else I need to see it in the flesh. Colour will no doubt play a big part in how it looks too. Initial impression is ‘could have done better’. :|

I think you may be surprised by this but that pic is an E89 that has been manipulated. No part of that is an E85.

That rear area at the wheel arch between the door and the boot above the wheel arch appeared on the E85 then the E86 tintop. It then became bigger in the E89 although it's unknown if that was due to grit in the designers eye or the crayon just slipped in the dark. :poke:

Whatever it is they unfortunately didn't build it as it would have been an improvement on the looks of the E89 and have a soft top too.

So now people only have the option to buy this thing they did build. It's great by the way, according to the reviews. Nothing bad about it and it's a rival to the Boxster. Amazing engines, wonderful to drive and the best ever car ever made ever, ever, ever, ever, ever. So there!

I would love to look at it and go, yeh I`d love that, but its just not doing it for me, im sure it drives great, but it still has to look like car porn, and for me it just doesn't, it looks like a Spyder in a Primark dinner suit, maybe when I see one in the flesh,,,,
