Correct, on my retrofits that is where I put mine as well - on the metal brackets behind the radio.

As PVR states, the retrofit location is in the dash behind the instrument panel, which is where I put mine.
Pvr obviously was cutting corners again.

Its all getting a little to complicated for my skill level so I will get a Garmin for when it plays up!

Have you checked in the light module near the rear view mirror? Mine is not in the plastic part of the rear view mirror, but under the interior light module (the lights pop out)...
