Had a couple of issues with flat battery and thought I might need to replace as wasn't sure of its age after buying car last year! I've just gone through the paperwork and found a receipt for Bosch S4 from April 17, is that right? I'm sure I read somewhere it should be S5.

S4 and S5 have nothing to do with battery size. It is do do with warranty mainly, being 4 and 5 year respectively

I replaced mine several years ago with a Bosch S5 but any decent battery will do as long as it meets or exceeds the CCA rating of the original (I think that was 90A) - battery dimensions are only other thing to be concerned about to ensure that it will fit in the well and that the clamp will tighten down enough to hold it in place

I think I've put an 82A in mine and had no issues at all, although it is on trickle charge most of the time. As Perry says, the dimensions are more important.

Thanks guys

The one that's on is S4 Type 110 80AH -
I'm going to give battery a good charge over the weekend and see how it goes, probably lack of use this year hasn't helped! :)

I've checked my original one - I like to keep a couple of old batteries in the garage for running 12v stuff

Original battery from the Alpina was rated at 80Ah / 640A CCA - the other old one I have is 90Ah / 720A CCA

Does your Alpina eat batteries and much as it like to drink oil then?

Its Ok Steve, by the time we've taxed it and bought our annual battery and oil, it still adds up to less than taxing an ///M :D

It should still be under warranty and, as you have the receipt, it should be easy enough to get it replaced

Returned battery to local ECP and voltage reading was only 2.6.
They need to do a test charge so waiting on a phone call.
