While telling the time with that watch it would play havoc with my eyesight

 Compared to this one its a cinch though  They are both an itch scratched and I love the designs but maybe something a little more conventional next time - there's always a next time with this hobby!

Lets see your Watches

Post by Vornwend » Fri Mar 19, 2021 8:10 pm

After at least 45 years languishing at the back of a drawer and then 5 years of indecision by myself my father's old watch has been resurrected. I believe it's from the late 1950's with a movement labelled 57/19. It was missing the crown and was looking rather battered but obviously had sentimental value to me. 5 years ago I investigated the possibility of repair but struggled to find a repairer that would take it on or did not want to charge me hundreds of pounds. I reluctantly put the watch away and rather forgot about it until with some recent lockdown time on my hands (so to speak) I decided to have another go. This time I struck lucky and found a retired watchmaker who able to bring it back to life for a very reasonable price. It keeps really good time and I love the patina of age that I think it carries so well. All that's left is to find it a suitable strap (thinking brown leather / aligator/reptile style) and it can resume a life out of the drawer! :D

I’m curious- does anyone have any pocket watches? I have a few, not really valuable but cleaned and working and I love the age of them - I think the oldest I have is 1908?

Yes, its bang on 35mm which certainly makes it the smallest watch in my collection.

But 35mm watches without bezels wear much bigger. My Datejust which is 36mm is perfect size on my 7 1/2” wrist

Yes that's true. Looking forward to getting a strap on it and trying it on. 7.25 inches here :)

Let’s see the pic when done. It really is a nice piece. Of late I have drawn to 50s / 60s watches especially gold
