With the Jeep being 4 years old now, and according to Motorway worth only a few thousand pounds less than what we paid for it, it is a good time to look at a replacement.
In addition, electric vehicles are being very much promoted with being 100% tax deductible in year 1 and very low personal cost, this seems to be a good time to switch to that.
The requirement is that the (large) dog should fit easily, but looking around there are no estate EV around.
Any recommendations? The car can’t be bigger than the existing Renegade. I had a look at the ID.3 yesterday but the boot is not the greatest. Might have a look at a Kia e Niro today as that seems a good size.

I've been looking at a couple
iX3 - will definitely fit your dog but may be more than you want to spend
Polestar 2 - bit cheaper but not sure about the dog without folding the seats down

We have an etron, it’s fantastic but enormous and has 180 range, which for us is not a problem 95% of the time, expensive though if you are buying, it’s size is a drawback sometimes too.
I like the look of vw’s new small suv the id4, the range looks good and it will be built well and IMO it looks really nice.

My choice would be a KIA EV6. Kia claim over 320 miles on a full charge. It is due out soon.

Thanks all for the input so far. It is going to be the “all purpose” car, ie parking where I don’t want to take the X5 or Porsche and of course taking the dog locally, so it won’t be the car I want to be worried about. I really can’t be bigger than the Renegade as the roads around here are narrow and it has to be sensible for parking etc. I do like the idea as well of being able to charge at home as for longer distances we use the X5 anyway.

We're looking at a couple of EVs for my dad...and he's quite keen on the only EV estate he could find...the MG5 EV (578 litres of boot space)...the top range model can do 250 miles combined or 334 miles urban.
He's got it down to this (if he finds the seat height/door entry acceptable for his bad back/neck) or the Hyundai Ioniq 5 with 527 litres of boot space. More expensive but has bigger battery for more power and/or better range (260 combined - 350 urban miles).

The BMW range is just too expensive for what I want Tobias the car for, no matter how nice though

All good thoughts and options, I really have not decided on anything yet so all types will be looked at. Just would like a local dealer as the Jeep / Abarth servicing is such a pain with the nearest dealer over an hour awaymmm-five wrote: ↑Sat Sep 18, 2021 12:14 pm We're looking at a couple of EVs for my dad...and he's quite keen on the only EV estate he could find...the MG5 EV (578 litres of boot space)...the top range model can do 250 miles combined or 334 miles urban.

Skoda Enyaq? Decent boot, quite reasonably priced but they do stiff you on "extras". Check out EVMan's review of it on YouTube.
My son has an eNiro, nice little SUV but the boot is too small for my 2 Golden Retrievers. I've heard the Ioniq 5 boot is quite shallow too unfortunately.
Be aware that once you've got an EV your ICE cars will get very little use. They are fantastic for 90% of car use.
(Had an i3 for 5 years now, I've got a fancy dog guard so can transport the hounds if I put the back seats down. Still does 150 miles on a charge after 5 years and will eat my Z4M for breakfast from 0-40 ish.)

Thanks, we had a look at the eNero and the boot was indeed the downfall.
What seems to be the favourite is the ID.3 at the moment with the biggest capacity. The boot was a very good size, I took it home and parked in the garage and it was fine size wise. All the toys such as adaptive cruise, camera, car play are all standard so could not even add any extras once I selected the fastest model.
Good discount of over £4k so works out at just over £35k.

My mate has just bought a Polestar and is over the moon with it, says it's super quick. Looks good in white but he hasn't got a dog large or otherwise to assist on the space issue.

The Ionic 5 is lush, I like the iD3 but couldn’t live with the interior, where as the iD4 is much better and the new Tesla small SUV is due soon too

That interior is a bit odd. For some reason, most electric cars have something odd about them. At least the top model has some leather bits thrown in, but leather seats was not an option unfortunately.
