Looking for a scale model E85

Post by enuff_zed » Wed Sep 08, 2021 4:13 pm

When I bought the black 2.2i as a project, I soon noticed the little lad across the road watching as I tinkered with it.
One day his dad brought him across for a chat. Edward is 7 and loves BMWs. I asked if he was interested in engineering. Yup, definitely.
So I told him the next time he saw me out there, to come over and help.
Edward is extremely shy so I doubted he'd be brave enough, but while I was sorting the rear suspension he appeared on the drive, looking a bit nervous. However, after five minutes he was head up inside the wheel arch asking 1000 questions. Learned really quick too! And what a sense of humour! As always happens, while undoing the bottom shock bolt it let go with a bang and my knuckles met the hub! I managed not to swear though. Five minutes later I was starting to lean on the ratchet handle to undo the calliper carrier when I saw Edward with his fingers in his ears.
"It won't be a loud noise Edward"...... "Oh no, I'm just not listening in case you need to swear!"
After an hour mother appeared to check he was ok, as they thought he'd be bored and home again in ten minutes.
Far from it! We ended up in the garage, explaining how all the new front shocks etc would go together, and I've had to promise I won't start without him!
In this day of Ipads and Minecraft I think it's great that this little lad wants to get his hands dirty (and his Norwich shirt - sorry mum).
So what I'd like to do is find a decent, but not too expensive model of a black E85 (RHD would be nice).
The plan is to ask him to come with me on a test drive once it's all done, then give him the model as a thank you, and to keep him encouraged.

Longwinded explanation but basically, can anyone point me to a decent black model E85 that I could give to Edward?
Cheers.

He must have to be a Canaries fan! :D
Whatever you do, don't ask him if he wants to come inside and see some puppies; they will throw away the key :poke:

Seriously, though, I think you may struggle with a RHD, but found this one. Pricey:

I have a 1/18th scale black E85 with 108’s still in its box and never opened. It’s in the loft. Happy to get it down over the weekend and send some pics over if you pm your email. It’s a Kyosho one from memory.

Did you used to write scripts for " The League of Gentlemen "

I think it`s great he is interested in what you are doing and good on you for rewarding him  plus he may become a mechanic in the future which would be handy :)

This is a silver coloured Maisto 1:18 scale model.

8 hours left and it's still on it's starting bid. Also has a "Make an offer" option on it.
It's left hand drive I think but the detailing on these models is very good.

Agreed. Also You can show a 7 year old how a car works; he can show you how to by-pass the adverts on You Tube, or how to sign up to Tik-Tok :D

Thanks all for the help. I will look into the options you all mention.
I'm sure the car would be played with, not put on a shelf, so no point paying out a fortune really.
srhutch, thank you for the offer, if you think it fits the 'play with' criteria then I would be interested, but don't want to take away someone's collectable for this purpose.

I am hoping this does kindle an interest in mechanical engineering. I went from helping my dad change the oil on a Moggie traveller, to fixing Tornados, Canberras and VC10s all over the world. Set me up for life.
