The offence is also drunk in charge of a motor vehicle. Just because it may be automatically driven, you would still be classed as being in charge.TitanTim wrote: ↑Sun Sep 05, 2021 9:07 am Fast forward 10 years you probably won't have a choice in driving it will all be automated and you'll just be a passenger. Good point, I do mainly motorway miles and I tend to just stick it in cruise control anyway but they would be useful around cities or average speed zones.PerryGunn wrote: ↑Mon Sep 06, 2021 7:44 pmI find them very useful to stop me falling foul of the speed cameras when driving in a strange town - it lets me concentrate on the directions from the satnav without worrying about a speeding ticket for drifting a few mph over the limit.JamesClements wrote: ↑Mon Sep 06, 2021 4:46 pm My Astra has a self select limiter just under cruise controls but Iv never touched it

Being an optimistic kind of person, I'm hoping this will help keep the small indy garages going.
Surely there'll be more and more people thinking they'll keep their older cars for longer now?

Doubt it - for the majority of people 'Oooh! Shiny!' beats a bit of inconvenience...
Many people won't see that they have any choice other than a new car as they've bought into the 36/48month PCP cycle because it allows them to drive a (flash) car that they couldn't otherwise afford. When they can't stump up the balloon payment at the end of the contract they just roll over into another new car on PCP.

All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

But are you in charge of it if not in the drivers seat? I guess depends on how much automation there would be but if you jumped in the back seat and told the car where to go wouldn't that be no different than taking a taxi? I guess its still drunk in charge if telling it to head for the nearest canalNanu wrote: ↑Mon Sep 06, 2021 7:48 pmThe offence is also drunk in charge of a motor vehicle. You can be found guilty of being drunk in charge sitting asleep in the car with keys in your pocket or just by standing next to the car with your keys in hand.TitanTim wrote: ↑Sat Sep 11, 2021 10:32 amBut are you in charge of it if not in the drivers seat? That law on drink driving always confuses me.
I mean when I was younger and had too much to drink on a cold winters day it would make more sense to shelter up in my car and sleep it off. Not allowed!!
Now if you can get done for just unlocking your car then that’s even worse!
I think the only way around it is get a friend to unlock your car and take the keys or maybe hide them?
Stupid law I think.

Wait till you hear about the one that will get you put on a tag + curfew, given a prison sentence and have your access to electronic devices removed just for offending someone in a tweet
