The new France return rule

Post by pvr » Sat Jul 17, 2021 8:37 am

Driving through the Eurotunnel next week and coming back the same way. I cannot find on any gov website if you have to quarantine if you just drive through France or not. I am literally 20 minutes driving from the tunnel into Belgium, not stopping off.

Only on the Reuters website did I see something about transit but nowhere else.

Any clarity somewhere?

I’d be hoping the same ‘transiting’ rules are being used as they are in the EU, so you only follow the guidance for the country(ies) you’ve actually visited/stayed in.

But, as always, you’ll never actually know until you get to UK immigration.

That is for returning France from visiting there, not transit. I am coming from NL, not France. The European rules are that you can transit through countries (ie less than 48 hours) to avoid quarantine.

Why can’t they just state what it means for transit.

They leave it vague and open to interpretation because they want an 'errors' to be your fault not their's :poke:

I'm pessimistic, so will assume the worst case scenario and plan accordingly :P

BBC is now showing “including transit”, so that will be me done for. Not seeing a single French person and still have to quarantine - where is the logic for that?

I have my own thoughts about what I will do

A friend of mine who is retired and has houses in UK and in Spain has been travelling between the 2 countries for a long time. He is happy to quarantine. He says that the authorities phone him on his land line every day, at different times, to check he's at home.

So much for "freedom day".

I've just come back from Miami (with the little bits of work I can do whilst still furloughed). It was such a refreshing change to see 99% of people not wearing masks and zero social distancing. When I got back to Britain it felt like living under communism with the Stasi watching out for your every move (although I did see a few people surreptitiously removing their masks at train stations).
