Flyingfifer, you and your alter ego, mgrlane seem to think that most state pension age people on this forum are of the same view as a few that have replied to your comments. There are 29614 registered on the forum and possibly less than 20 make a comment on what you both have to say. Most older people have carried on with their lives similarly to what you both have claimed to do. Personally, I have no intention of dying at 80 and intend to live until I am 103. So please, don’t knock older people just because they are older. Knock some for being criminals, ex-Prime Ministers or drunks, but not just because they are older.
Your comments against older people are unusual for 30 somethings, I have heard similar comments from 18 year olds who want State Pensions stopped so that the Government can pay their university fees, media courses etc. That’s understandable, as at that age most are not used to paying their own way.

Nothing to apologise for Ron, I hope you have many many more years... just dont enthusiastically support supressing everyone elses right to live their life because you are scared of a virus.

Dave1971 wrote: Tue May 25, 2021 1:16 pm In some respects you do have some valid observations but you do realise that the only reason you have the life you do is because of the very hard work of generations you seam to begrudge a few more years of life.

These are the people whose blood sweat and tears rebuilt this country from the bankrupt shell that was left from two world wars. They rebuilt the country from nothing and enjoyed the benefits that brought, and now you’ll get the chance to do the same, this time you’ll get to do it the way you want too and you’ll enjoy the benefits your hard work brings.
You misunderstand my point, I (what I though) obviously don't begrudge them having a few more years or ideally many more years. My issue is with their enthusiastic endorsement and encouragement of far reaching draconian and repressive lockdowns for the whole country for a virus that threatens a small minority. If the retired want to be in lockdown for their safety more power to them but the belief that they are somehow morally entitled to dictate that requirement to everyone else as well is what I have an issue with.

Incorrect, at no point have I suggested that ALL older people think the same or are in some way a monolith, given that I myself have posted the video of the 83 year old lady speaking out against lockdown, it really makes that whole argument utterly ludicrous. Also for completeness, I also know there are plenty of people my age and younger that would wholeheartedly agree with lockdowns and want them to continue in perpetuity.

I very much hope you make 103 and I would be happy to buy you a pint on your birthday.... if we are allowed to of course :poke:

Again, for clarity, I do not want to strip old people of their pensions, BBC licence fee, heating allowance etc etc etc. They worked bloody hard for it and (on the whole) paid their way. Conversely I'm a person that would like to see a higher pension paid and no elderly person (or anyone) living in poverty.
My issue is that in order to protect and give few years to the people that dont need to go out to work (as they are retired) we are under penalty of law stopping everyone else from living their lives. We have kids going into school who are woefully under socialised and it is impacting their ability to progress academically and in life, this isnt just a couple of year thing, this is going to have a societal impact for decades never mind the unimaginable damage its caused and is causing to the economy.

If you young pups had not had your freedom curtailed you would made it worse for the majority!

But you say that you currently work from home?
You still have your shopping delivered?
Do you really want to return to normal?

Have you done any covid tests determine you are clear yet ?
As we are about to be let loose very soon, I decided to get a kit. I can tell you it’s not a pleasant experience but you ought to do one just Incase - my likelyhood of infection was very low but I did the test, so Happily it’s a negative.
You don't stop playing when you get old - You get old when you stop playing!
So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.

But you would have been safe at home with your vaccine :idunno:

As for curtailing everyone's life for 2 years, firstly, the over 65s is not the majority and anyone who felt too scared to go outside could have locked themselves away if they wanted to. But more importantly, the hospitalisation rate for younger people is almost 1/5 that of older people and realistically that figure is likely skewed by the upper end of the 18-65 scale.

From 19/03/20 to 06/04/21 in England
42,762 people aged 65 - 84 (19 years) have been admitted to hospital for COVID
That's an average of 111 per day.
On this scale the hospitalisation rate within this age bracket is 2385.8 per 100,000 population

42,227 people aged 18 - 64 (46 years) have been admitted to hospital for COVID
That's an average of 110 per day.
On this scale the hospitalisation rate within this age bracket is 498.9 per 100,000 population

2019/20 there were 81,396 mechanical ventilation beds in the UK, enough to cover
the older rate 34.1 times
the younger rate 163.2 times

But you say that you currently work from home? Yes
You still have your shopping delivered? No, never have
Do you really want to return to normal? Yes
Have you done any covid tests determine you are clear yet? No, never have

Do you need to work from home?
Wouldn’t you like to go back now you consider it so safe for your age group or do you have oldies there?

I assume your question is more can I work from a workplace rather than do I need to work lol
I don't but I also don't see the point in travelling into an centralised office for the sole reason that its the done thing, that's the one good thing that's came out of this

I would however like to turn up at a restaurant and not have to walk back to my car for a mask that I have to wear to walk the 4 paces from the door to my table before I'm legally allowed to remove it though

Just accept that some people simply don't like rules, albeit short term rules for the good of the population and will always find excuses to satisfy THEIR OWN AGENDA or simply don't like to tow the line.

End of the day thank goodness the population has seen the light, followed the rules and taken up the vaccine even if they didnt think they needed it or it might affect them personally.

I guess in old money it was called stepping up or mucking in and doing your bit for the greater good whether you agreed with how the pandemic has been handled good or bad.

I suppose in the last war if everyone had taken an individual stance then we wouldn't have what we have today.

I believe he may just then have indirectly called you a Nazi

Which is ironic because from what I understand the Germans were "stepping up or mucking in and doing your [their] bit for the greater good" and not questioning their government/leaders is how Hitler got so powerful in the 1st place.
