I finally managed to arrange storage for mine mid-December, so it's been cleaned and tucked up under an indoor car cover with a trickle charger on since then! My wife had our first baby in January so I daresay it'll be there for a wee while yet!!!

I have been keeping mine off the road from November 1st to March 1st. There is just too much salt and grit on the roads. Even in March, April now the sides of the country roads are a mess. I'm looking forward to driving it again though.

I decided life was too short, so although I sorn'd mine on 31 December I taxed it on 1 February.

Battery was so flat the alarm kept going off, but my Amazon special jump-starter got it going today - and then somehow I got lost on my way to the supermarket.

As an oldie I thought I might as well enjoy it while I wait to see whether I get the vaccine before Covid!
Coupes because stunning!

I just cover my Z4MC up from the end of October to the beginning of March. No point submitting it to salt on the roads and no fun driving it when you can't really exercise it. I keep the plate on my other modern sports car and use it maybe once every couple of weeks in the winter when the wife's car is unavailable.

Have to disconnect the battery on the M - was using a trickle charger/maintainer but somehow it developed a high resistance joint and stopped working last winter. Can't wait for Spring.

Do you find any problems having the battery disconnected for long periods ?

No, the battery is fairly new and when you reconnect it the car wakes up promptly.

These modern cars make me appreciate my vintage stuff. Nothing to suck the juice out of a battery - store the car and just fire it up in the Spring. A modern radio with presets can flatten a battery in a few weeks and the juice used by the on board systems take some as well.

Cheers. My garage doesn’t have a power supply annoyingly, which usually isn’t too much of a problem. It’s been so wet that I’m not even getting it out of the garage at the moment.

Any harm caused then if I were to remove the battery to give it a decent charge/recondition?

Mine is also an expensive bird bath (Coupe) that gets a weekly blat up the A38 for 30 mins.

I should probably take it to work once a month for a 450 mile return trip to London, but the thought of the 2 hours in traffic puts me off and 4 hours long trip, although I should probably just do it.

I recently did this on my E86. When you reconnect, you'll have to perform a reset of the electric windows as per the instructions in your manual because the one touch operation and anti-trap (I think) will no longer function. I also had a selection of lights on the dash come on amber (and stay on) the first time I started the car, but the second time I fired it up there were no issues.

Oh, I should mention that I chose not to properly close the boot and rested it on a sheet instead. I wasn't sure if the boot opening mechanism required power to function. I'm sure you could just open it with the key if that's the case but I didn't know so put a sheet between the catch to avoid any potential hassle. My garage is locked and alarmed.

Mine is sitting in the garage on a maintenance charge @13.6v
It will come off around April if restrictions allow for a few runs.

Mot Sep 19 to Mot September 20 it only did 1000 or so miles and I’m glad I didn’t put a set of MPS 4 on as I’d intended.

Reading this thread makes me feel better .. at least I’m not the only one with a car tucked away

Last year was a disaster.. hopefully this year will improve

Mine went away at the beginning of October following its MOT and 300 mile drive home :)

Got it out this week to drive it to the local
Body shop for a quote for the front bumper repainting .. did about 20 miles

It’s now back under the cover till .. well who knows ?

My X3 has only done 1k since the beginning of June and the Mini we are are using as the local run around has only done 3k

Anyway .. here’s it under the cover and a pic taken this week when it saw daylight for the first time in four months

Get on with finishing that garage :D Looks like it can really look nice once you cover those walls up.

I used melamine boards to sort mine out.
