Maybe people outside of Automotive/F1?Z4C_er wrote: ↑Fri Aug 28, 2020 3:10 pmI guess as I mentioned earlier, that I don't know of anyone that actually looks up to the guy. And I work in automotive, so a lot of colleagues are into F1. Opinions of him range from indifference to absolute hatred.
So, I struggle to see how someone who is thought of with such indifference making an impact on people. Who will take notice of him and follow his example?

F1 is so utterly dull now.....what do people even watch it for, to see which one of the two mercedes cars wins the race? Where is the sport and the point of that....

OK, but if they are outside the sphere, then who is Hamilton to them anyway? For example I don't follow American football at all, and if there was someone there who was doing something extraordinary, I doubt I would be on the lookout for it or even know who they are talking about.inkey$ wrote: ↑Sat Aug 29, 2020 1:54 pmMaybe people outside of Automotive/F1?Z4C_er wrote: ↑Fri Aug 28, 2020 3:10 pmI guess as I mentioned earlier, that I don't know of anyone that actually looks up to the guy. I genuinely get the sentiment. It’s just he has quite a large following; many of which I’m sure are fans. Facebook/Twitter/Instagram alone it’s at 30 million plus.Z4C_er wrote: ↑Sat Aug 29, 2020 3:29 pmOK, but if they are outside the sphere, then who is Hamilton to them anyway? Hate to say it but completely agree. I never watch any of todays races anymore and even if I catch a race on the box I end up watching it for 10 mins and thats it, the dullness is overwhelming But then when I think back to the Senna, Prost, Mansell days along with Murray Walker and James Hunts commentry its hardly surprising to me why todays F1 pales.Angelus666 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 29, 2020 3:04 pm F1 is so utterly dull now.....what do people even watch it for, to see which one of the two mercedes cars wins the race? As for E Formula 1 its even worse, I can only compare it to an oversized Scalextric.
Tim.

Verstappen won a few races ago but yes it’s very predictable, even I’m bored of it at the mo and I never thought I’d say that. The whole of F1 was waiting with clenched teeth to get this year over with and have the new very different cars and regs next year but that’s not happening now until 2022 because of Covid. So next year will be another bore fest with the same old same old with Verstappen the only non Merc driver with half a chance, there is literally no one else able to get even close to the Mercs. Leclerc hasn’t got the car, Albon isn’t yet good enough.....it’s pretty dire right now.Angelus666 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 29, 2020 3:04 pm F1 is so utterly dull now.....what do people even watch it for, to see which one of the two mercedes cars wins the race? I’ve said this a million times, but the only way to make it even half interesting is to have 20 cars, 20 drivers, 20 races and each driver has to drive each car once. Then you’ll see who the best driver, car and team is. I don’t understand how they don’t see it. We are the last generation watching it and it’ll die if they stick to its current format.

There’s never been a rotation in car and driver since the birth of motorsport AFAIK...doesn’t and can’t work. There is change coming as I said, the current format is being cancelled as from 2022, it will see 18” wheels, less aero effect on the front end, a level playing field with the engines.

Makes no difference what car they drive Verstappen Hamilton and Leclerc and hopefully Alonso from 2022 would still win everything, F1 teams aren’t stupid, they study drivers to the enth degree and employ the best if the driver will sign for them. If you had driver rotation then you would have to have a formula where every team had exactly the same chassis and engine as the information spread would mean any team that found an edge would have it leaked as soon as it appeared. F1 is the pinnacle of motorsport and car development, it’s not and never has been a same down the paddock formula. Grit the teeth and wait now until 2022.

And that’s the problem right there. Lewis could drive a Red Bull if you have him 3 days practice, that would make it a challenge, that would make it interesting. Who could adjust the quickest, who could get the most out of a non familiar set up. Where technology wasn’t such a huge separator in the past is totally impacts the result today.
Ask yourself this, if Lewis was in a red bull and Vettel was in a Mercedes next week, would that make it more interesting to watch?

No because Vettel would probably crash it.....
It could never happen because as I said teams couldn’t have a secret. You’d need every car identical then it’d work but then you wouldn’t have F1, all you’d have is a formula with the same cars.
Lest see what 2022 brings, its a level playing field.

If you like racing watch BSB. I know its bikes and not cars but the racing is brilliant.
One of the Irwin brothers gained 16 places before being clipped from behind after passing.
Seeing how difficult it can be for bikes to pass each other I dont even know how cars manage at all.

I concentrate on the midfield these days as that is where the excitement is. It seems that TV broadcasting does the same as they rarely look at the front of the field after the first 4 laps. I am pleased to see that Ferrari agree with me and ensure that their drivers are in mid field or close to to last battles.Angelus666 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 29, 2020 3:04 pm F1 is so utterly dull now.....what do people even watch it for, to see which one of the two mercedes cars wins the race?
