Today is the first time since 2008 that I've not had a convertible to drive around in. I feel like I've lost a limb

Such a beautiful day in Edinburgh today too!

Sad times :(

Hopefully you have a plan to remedy that.

no no, there will be no can-opener required. I'm just going to be without for a few weeks until everything falls into place and with a bit of luck I'll be pushed around by a 4-pot turbo :)

Yeah, I do have my concerns. Would be good to hear your experiences.

The thing that works in my favour though is my vanity. I am a proper car enthusiast but a full-on, self-confessed poser

Oh I didn't take it. I do, however, believe it was that wonderful day in 1966 when we had sunshine. We've never shut up about it ever since :poke:

 You’ve got a cracking sense of humour Greg...!

The flat 4 turbo then.....quite honestly I thought it was dreadful Greg, why? Well there was just no drama with it, the higher the revs rose the slightly, and only slightly, the dull bassy sound got, 7000 revs sounded pretty much the same as 2000. It flew alright, no problems there, 80 felt like 40 and there the problem was compounded, you were at naughty boy speeds without having the foggiest how you got there. It did feel blown too, only very slightly but just a little dullness before it got on boost, not really a problem but if you’ve driven an S54 you’ll know, those things have incredible throttle response. You got a few pops and bangs changing down a gear which was fun but not nearly enough to make up for the sheer tediousness of the engine, and on tick over from start up, oh my lord, I’m not joking it sounded like a 1960’s Massy Ferguson, it wasn’t much better after a run either. Engine aside, amazing car, so balanced, you couldn’t get anywhere near it’s full capabilities on the road really, not without being a lunatic. It was a mistake buying it, the seats were way too hard, the demo cars had the standard GTS 2way seats which were fine, but I ordered the fancy 18way fully adjustable ones which were far too hard, so after 1400 miles I had to be honest with myself and admit I’d ballsed up, I had a punt at selling it before winter came, not really expecting to shift it but a retired guy had it, one of only two phone calls so I was bloody lucky, and especially so now that they’re putting a very slightly detuned GT4 6pot 4.0 back in the GTS, the 4 pot turbos must be dropping in value like a lead balloon soon. So there was just no theatre with it, no grin inducing howl and the fact it made such a dreadful noise meant I couldn’t live with it, never again!

That’s all just my opinion obviously though Greg, and I know others would slate me as they find it fine, as usual it’s down to personal preference, no right or wrong. If you get one chances are you’ll tell me I’m talking utter shite, and tbh I hope you do if your hearts set on one. Let us know how you get on if it happens and tell me to get stuffed.  :driving:

Much appreciated John. I guess much like everything in life you're not going to please everyone.

Planning on popping to my local dealership tomorrow for a look and listen. I would consider an older Porsche but I just don't think I could stomach the maintenance costs to be honest.

Maybe a 981 should still be considered. Could probably pick up a belter of an S for my budget (£32k). Again though, don't think I could stomach not having the latest toy :(

You’re shallow.....I specced the 718 up with so much bling they cost half as much again as the base car.... :hairdryer:

Nicer steering wheel which some are heated now, much better infotainment in the 718, better looking in a very subtle way. If you’re ok with the engine sound then 718 it is for sure, they’re not short on grunt, the base 2.0 is all but 300bho as you know.
