There’s a slight possibility of me buying a Ladies Yachtmaster (169622 ) for my daughter - a friend is selling as she is in difficult financial times - whilst wanting it for a good price I don’t want a mercenary good deal that rips her off.

She’s been offered £2500 by Watchfinder. It has box and papers and is 2006 vintage but no service - I thought £3000 cash might be fair offer?

So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.

I'd say £3k cash is reasonable, she could hold on and get maybe £4k elsewhere but she needs to get the cash soon and you're offering a fair amount more than Watchfinder.

They could even offer her less upon inspection which may not have occurred to her.

Is it the platinum and steel or gold and steel?

I’ve got the former and it’s a lovely watch, not bling just the right side of sporty but elegant. Sometimes I wish I had purchased the mid-size but then again I can wear this as a dress watch and I think that’s what I love about it, suits any and every occasion from swimming in the pool on holiday to a ball gown at a formal :D

The papers and box help lift the value. But obviously age and condition affect the price. I would just be a bit concerned that it hasn’t been serviced especially if it is an older watch, I have a Rolex and have it serviced every five years by a watchmaker friend who tells me the services are important. As far as buying price is concerned have a look on the Internet and see what they are selling for. That will give you an idea where to pitch your offer. I am sure your daughter would love the watch. I bought one for my wife and she has been thrilled to bits with it.

It is the platinum and steel version - It is thirteen years old and unserviced but a local well respected watchsmith says £250 will sort it!
The internet prices seem to vary quite a bit - There are some showing quite high asking prices but that's it - asking prices and still for sale.

I think if I can get it for £3k then we would both be getting an ok deal.

My daughter knows nothing of my plan yet - she's only going to get my money when I'm dead so she can have some now when I can still see the smile on her face.

If you are happy and the seller is happy. Then it’s a good deal.

She hasn't decided yet and I don't want to push - I will have to be patient
The watchsmith I spoke to today said that I wasn't being mercenary and it was a fair and reasonable offer.

The lady hasn't worn the watch since April and it has been sitting in my safe since then.

Looks like an agreed sale - £3200 ok its £200 more than I intended but it’s not a kings ransom!

I am sure your daughter will be delighted and hopefully the seller will take consolation from the fact her watch is going to a friend.

I’m sure she is !
The lady is struggling with her money and the extra £200 is a huge difference for her. I’m sure the little bit extra will help her. Im not getting such a bargain but her benefits from the extra dosh outweighs my loss.
