Internet/TV provider advice, please

Post by Busterboo » Sun Sep 29, 2019 11:31 am

Our Virgin cable/broadband/TV/phone cable has crept up, increase by increase, to £91 a month. The broadband is fast - 100+ - double other providers', but I can live with 50.

Is there a provider who will take over the cable for a more reasonable price, please?

Phone them up, tell them you're leaving and they'll halve your bill

Call 150 from your Virgin Media phone or mobile, or
call 0345 454 1111 * from any other phone

Doing this right now will let you know how I get on

I have two accounts one in Manchester and one in Cleethorpes so it is a double hit for me.

My Virgin is going up in November, end of an introductory offer, going up to £84 from £57. Which is still way cheaper than I was paying with BT for broadband and Sky for tv - they came in at £135 a month :o

Problem is, I don’t think there is anyone who will take over your fibre itself so you will be back to broadband over a telephone line. Unless you go full Sky (which I didn’t want as I’d lose BT Sport for rugby unless I paid £30/month extra), you’ll end up with two new providers who will do a deal for 12/18 months and then also hike their prices. I haven’t looked at the market in detail for a year, so there may be great deals out there, but for me it was a huge faff and risk changing away from 2 providers so as long as it’s under £100/month I’m sticking.

All that said, call them as above and see what they can do, or check out usual places like moneysavingexpert for th beets deals.

Virgin broadband is great but all their other services are a rip off. My advice would be to keep the cable internet but ditch everything else. Should get your bill down to £30 ish a month. Then just get a smart tv with the freeview etc built in or buy a dongle for your existing.

Well got the Manchester account back down which I have had for 3 years down from 37.20 to just under £23 for Internet only at 100mbps

The Cleethorpes one I have had for over 22 years is standard price only and stays at £42 with the same 100mbps and a phone line, the could not do broadband only at the same price or so they say will ring back next week and see if the offers have changed.
