When I read articles which say 'near-miss'. For example: 'The two vehicles escaped a near-miss'.

You wouldn't say "Oh look the two vehicles nearly missed!"

Surely it would be near-hit? Or am I wrong?

Ahh well you can turn it to your advantage though Alan. When she starts whining “ Dad I’m 18 can I get a car”?, just look at her with a slightly puzzled look on your face, shrug your shoulders and say “Er yes, why are you asking honey, you can get whatever you want when you can afford it, you’re 18 now” and walk off grinning smugly to yourself.... :P

The term near-miss always confused me also. It's a big thing in my work. We have to report anything that could cause injury as a near-miss, even if it already has e.g operator slipped on patch of oil.

It's a weird term, to me anyway :lol:
