Like the old Webley Nemesis pistol if you've ever come across one. Just one up from a spring air rifle (of the equivalent model), but not quite as serious (or expensive) as a Co2 cartridge or PCP (Pneumatically charged from an air tank) rifle, on average at least.
Also supposed to be quieter, less vibration to interfere with accuracy, and longer lasting than an equivalent spring, although I've never had any issues with the longevity of any spring powered air rifle.
Ah ok thanks Dan, I need to do some more research. Admittedly I’m a complete amateur with air rifles, but the Webley .177 brings back fond memories from when I was a kid.

No worries John, I had always had spring powered air rifles, so I had to learn about them myself, but I had owned a Webley pistol years ago which was gas ram powered.
All the UK sites explain exactly what each one does and they're usually split up into categories, Pellpax.co.uk is a good site to get info about the different types.
