So the front tyres on my X4 are nearly bald on the outside edge (done 50k miles and 5 years old). I had the rears replaced approx 6k ago and the wear was even.
Getting the wheel alignment / tracking check done but been quoted £50 for front adjustment or more likely £101 for rear adjustment because apparently the rear alignment can put the fronts out of sync? Is that true or just BS..?
Any other recommendations? I've got them to price match the 10% off deal @ kwik fit on the tyres so Im getting the ones I want for the lowest price possible..

Uneven Tyre Wear - Outside Front Tyres
I take it the fronts have been changed before? 50,000 miles is a lot for a tyre.
The outside of the fronts of my X6 wear more than the rest of the tyre too and that is after alignment has been checked.
Across the tyre is pretty even with just the shoulders wearing more.
The inner rears also wear more.
I think it is just the characteristic of the car that they scrub the outside of the fronts while cornering.

Hi, if your rear tyres had even wear what makes the alignment guy think they need adjustment? Sounds like a money spinner to me!

I think wear on the outer edges of the front tyres may just be a BMW trait.
I had the same issue with my 1st E46 3 Series and my E87 1 Series. I haven't done enough miles in my others to find out yet!

Thanks for all the replies, the issue was only noticed at the 4th MOT in october when the fronts had done around 45K so its either a more recent development or a slow burner. I'll see what the hunter tracking free check comes back with and decide from there

A lot of toe in can wear the outside edges.
Inner rear wearing more will be the excessive camber BMW specify.
I always run my own setup which is to reduce front toe in and reduce rear camber. Both points make the car more pointy with less understeer but I've never found it snappy. BMW are overly cautious with their settings, especially on a hulking great 4x4.

I am getting my wheels refurbed and decided to change the rear tyres at the same time so as to stay away from tyre fitters who will not take as much care as the refurbers. Even though they are only about half worn with 3.5mm to 4.5mm outside to inside. Checked my receipt and they have done 16.5k ... not enough hooning since Dec 2017
