BMW Recall

No wonder they are snowed under if they send duplicate letters !
Ours has been in twice now; apparently its a different recall for the same part with a different check - at least ours was OK both times but it will need to be changed when they start making the sensors available in large numbers. Given that ours wasn't bad enough to have the car laid up I bet its going to be the end of the year before ours is changed. We were told that every car (in the affected model ranges) coming through the workshops have to be checked every time - so every visit becomes an opportunity to have your car 'off roaded'

Thanks for the heads up on that!
I wrongly assumed it was an admin mistake - hey hum another day without a car!

I have noticed a very shrill albeit low volume whistle at times so maybe there is something in need of a fix - If it does need a fix they’ll need to do it before my Germany / Netherlands trip in mid April - or loan me something appropriate for a longish Euro trip.

So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.

BMW Recall

I don't know what it is with BMW these days, trying to get a loan car or suggesting if one could be supplied when the car is in for a service the nice lady behind the desk either falls to the floor in hysterical laughter or looks at me as if they have a turd attached to their shoe. When I call Hyundai to book the i10 in for a service they either offer a loan car or offer to collect the car from home and drop it back, I opt for the car to be collected from home. When I had the i10 serviced last year I was sent a video of the service whilst I sat at home. My BMW dealer have never done any of that. Just shows you can buy a car a third of the price and get a much better dealer service

Nope I've never had anything from my dealer. I used to like my BMW dealer when first using them around 15 years ago but were taken over I think by Bluebell and it's gone down hill ever since I get the feeling the larger dealerships are more interest in fleet sales etc as probably where the money is. My local Hyundai dealer is still family owned and they seem to go the extra mile with after sales.

No -its Chelmsford.

Hers's my loan car. A Toyota CH-R  . BMW are using Enterprise for their long-term loan cars. The guy at Enterprise says BMW have put about 2000 people in to their cars already. It must be costing them a fortune.

What's the Toyota like? I'm guessing not great to drive. I quite like the look of them as was thinking of trying one out when I change the runabout at the end of the year.

At least it doesn't catch fire

The Toyota's not too bad. Good chassis/ handling. Good build quality. The hybrid drivetrain will take a little getting used to. Not much torque compared to my X3, but I bet the MPG will be impressive.

Tim, it doesnt sound like your BMW dealer is keeping up with modern expectations. I got the walk around video emailled to me on my service, and even again this week when to car was in for the recall check. Ford do it too.

Thanks for the info, I specced a CHR up yesterday but was a bit pricey and might be out of my budget range once I'd added the kit I would want on one, also looking at Hyundai Kona which is slightly cheaper and fully loaded and a Kia Stonic around the same cost, the CHR starts to get quite pricey the higher up the range you go.

Yes the BMW dealer I use could be better, the 140i is 3 years old in August so once the MOT has passed I will be going elsewhere, Ironically the dealer is a few hundred metres away so probably pushing it asking then to collect and deliver the car back :) but they don't offer the service anyways. They could learn a thing or two from Hyundai.

BMW Recall

Ive checked with them and it is a duplicated letter of recall - they said it was but Im not convinced.
Perhaps the run across from Ijmuiden to Hanover next month might warm the bits up !

Well after 3 weeks with the Kadjar and a admission from the dealership my car will be in for the long haul, so I really had to push for a better car. I had a call yesterday afternoon asking me to bring the hire car back as they have a BMW car for me, I arrived to be greeted with a 68 plate 1k miles Active 5 Hybrid 3.0i with 350 bhp in sport mode. Result
