Tonight's Grand Tour,Scotland

Post by craig3.2 » Sat Feb 23, 2019 12:05 am

A very enjoyable episode of today's Grand tour....new M5 & Alpina feature was good,as was the NC500-Esque route they did up in Scotland, going from Inverness to the North west on a road not part f the nc500 route, which did look very good, then back down to Ullapool, etc before going back to Inverness,in some classic Italian cars.....Lancia was nice,x19 so so,but that Alfa gt v6 was very nice looking indeed....only outdone by the epic scenery and awesome looking roads.
Clarkson and co said it was their favourite drives of all time :driving: :D

Aren't we lucky up here :D

Looked spectacular, certainly whetted the appetite for the NC500 run in May. Really looking forward to it. :driving:

Sounds great. It's just a shame the NC500 has been somewhat ruined by popularity and heavy tourism :(

The best episode of the series, it reminded me the NC500 trip as I did a similar diversion and of the GTV6 six I had back in the day, so guess which add's I browsed afterwards ........... I knew I should have kept the '6' :headbang:

Done our own version of this 3, times. Each one was a variation of the nc500. It's definitely worth using the route as a guide, but remember that the they want you spend your cash so keep you on populated routes. Cut across country and do a bit of research can be the difference between driving on a crappy road or being a few miles inland on some unbelievable roads. I think the nc500 route has the road up from Inverness to the john o groats. Don't bother and go cross country. We did this and saw literally 3 cars in an hour on amazing roads.

The roads are quite touristy with everything stuck behind caravans. But pretty much everyone only goes to fort William or loch Ness. Every time I have been, anywhere North of this is really quiet. I need to go back ASAP!

Brought back memories of the best roads in the world. If those 3 say so they would know!

Strangely enough its the current popularity of the NC500 that is putting me off doing it , especially when there are so many other areas , roads , scenery north of the border to enjoy that are relatively traffic free

There's far better places to go. When I first went up that way in 2009 it was incredible despite the fact I was in a Peugeot 308cc

Fast forward to 2016 and it was more like driving round the M25, but with more potholes.

It's a bit like The Beatles. So many bands did it better than them, but they were the first to make it big

Don't get me wrong, the scenery is incredible and you would probably love it, but it's just not the experience it's made out to be

No doubt but europe is a big place with equally if not better drives / scenery .
Door to door for me would clock up around 1500miles , looking at doing Netherlands ,northern Germany & a good lump of Denmark would be similar :o & not the same risk to the licence :driving: :P
