Which weekender & why if you had £5k - £35k to spend

Post by mr wilks » Thu Feb 07, 2019 10:09 pm

After 13 x Z4s ive been having bad thoughts of a change of scene  ive had 2 911s previously so my admiration for them isnt a craving .
I could go to £35k but though ive studied hard i really can't get enough enthusiasm to warrant that spend or anything close to that figure .
I do minimal miles per month but a good few long weekends covering 200/500 miles plus at least one if not more euro jaunts to Normandy per year in the weekend car .
I don't have to have the newest or the fastest , i just enjoy owning whatever i have .
For those wondering why ive had 13 Z4s its simply that even now i cannot come up with one that really ticks out every box .
So feel free to throw up what you would buy , why you would buy & what you expect it would cost :) then i will buy another Z4 :D

Some time ago I looked at and tried a Morgan - Don't bother adding that to your list !
I was so glad to get back into the 3.0l E85 I had at that time - Perhaps you are well justified in buying another Z4
You don't stop playing when you get old - You get old when you stop playing!
So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.

Every petrolhead should own a Lotus Elise for the smiles per mile they deliver, a later (post 06) version will be Toyota powered so no hgf aggravation.
I owned my 56 plate “S” model for almost 3 years and sold it for more than I payed for it, 40mpg and light on tyres and brakes because it hardly touches the ground at 850kg’s
As good as a z4 is they still don’t look as stunning as an Elise, around tight twisty roads they’re almost untouchable.
No worries about power steering issues as they don’t have any power steering :P
Oh yeah, they don’t have carpets either

Once you’re in they’re surprisingly comfortable (with probax seats) it’s difficult to climb in & out of though, much more so than a z4.
Don’t be tempted by any performance exhausts or airbox mods either as that’s when Mrs Smartbear stopped wanting to get in it.
I fitted a Lotus stage 2 exhaust and a TRD airbox to mine and it was migraine inducingly loud :o

If I was thinking of a car in the £20,000 to £35,000 price range I would consider an Alpina B3. You could buy one with mileage under 50000. A fantastic car that can cruise gently or be driven at speed to give you the smile you had with the Z4M. The comfort levels are high and it has a certain prestige. The Alpina D3 diesel is also worth considering, fantastic torque.
I used to have two boys and a girl. Now I have two Men and a Woman. :?
