I’d say try a lotus
Either Elise, Exige or an Evora in that order of luxury.
Otherwise I’d be looking at AM V8 or an R8 maybe a Boxster spyder if funds could stretch a little.

& the AM or R8 is just not me either , dare i say a little too much badge & bling

Sounds like you just want a 911?
Not my cup of tea, but a good safe bet if that's what you like.

987 Cayman R would get my vote. They just feel underpriced at the moment.
A current gen, non-S C63 Coupe is going to pop up for under £40k any day now. Go have a drive, they are hilarious.

Nothing Badge or Bling about the R8. Just a well engineered sports car and just about the only Audi worth sitting inside IMHO. No quicker than many a well driven Zed mind.mr wilks wrote: ↑Mon Mar 11, 2019 11:31 pmThanks for the suggestions but never been a Lotus fan ( well the Europa or Esprit possibly ) i don't get them outside or inside trying a little to hard to look supercar which is not what i'm after & just not "germanic" enough for me if that makes sense

The badge was Re the AM (kudos of the brand means more to some than the actual car ) , the bling Re the R8 ( bit shouty for a northern lad still working on building sites ) & your tongue is well in the cheek i guess with the last bit

G29 I can't see that ever being a option id consider & i'm having a problem when considering the 981 Boxster / Cayman , , right now they seem to be parity pricewise & i can't help thinking the Cayman is more of a car if that makes sense perhaps a earlier 987 would be worth considering ?philbo909 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2019 7:44 amYou've got only four options with your ludicrous wants and needsmr wilks wrote: ↑Mon Mar 11, 2019 11:31 pmThanks for the suggestions but never been a Lotus fan ( well the Europa or Esprit possibly ) i don't get them outside or inside trying a little to hard to look supercar which is not what i'm after & just not "germanic" enough for me if that makes sense

I think the cayman only makes sense looks wise, it's no more agile or practicalmr wilks wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2019 8:01 amG29 I can't see that ever being a option id consider & i'm having a problem when considering the 981 Boxster / Cayman , , right now they seem to be parity pricewise & i can't help thinking the Cayman is more of a car if that makes sense perhaps a earlier 987 would be worth considering ?philbo909 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2019 7:44 amYou've got only four options with your ludicrous wants and needsmr wilks wrote: ↑Mon Mar 11, 2019 11:31 pm Thanks for the suggestions but never been a Lotus fan ( well the Europa or Esprit possibly ) i don't get them outside or inside trying a little to hard to look supercar which is not what i'm after & just not "germanic" enough for me if that makes sense

Not that I've ever test driven a Boxster/cayman, they're out of budget or ropey looking

as i said earlier in this thread, the cayman r is a tasty motor with z4m performance and the pdk box is sublime.
probably top end of your budget would get you into a 11 plate.

Eugh for the love of God don't det a pdk equipped Cayman R - that's absolute bloody sacrilege!
To echo what others have said imo a cayman R with the correct gearbox choice is a cracking car and imo definitely they are a bit under valued and under the radar at the moment....
I think even driving pleasure aside they are a very astute purchase at the moment - they will age well and are likely to hold their money and even give you a return if well looked after. And anyone who says a 911 drives better hasn't driven a proper Cayman... Sorry shots fired and all that but you can't escape the inherent balance of a mid engined car. Very very rewarding

i have gone back to a manual on my current z, but having driven the cayman r the box is awesome and barring having a clutch pedal , is as involving as you want it to be and very slick.

Love the noise of the TVR but ruled out as i wouldn't fancy being stranded as i do like to get well away from civilisation
Ariel Atom a bit track focused for me & i just couldn't imagine setting off for the 12 hour French drive in one alone & with mrs W
