My renewal has just come through £315,not a happy bunny. The roads around here are full of potholes ,40,50 mph

I would recommend moving to Cornwall. But as I enjoy the quite roads around here to myself, I will suggest Scotland instead. :driving:

I'm pretty sure I only paid £305 last year.I know it's only £10 extra but at the moment it's working out at £100 tax per thousand miles. It wouldn't be so bad if the roads weren't riddled with craters.
I think 20p on a litre of fuel and do away with vehicle tax would be a fairer way .

Good job VED isn't a tax to fix potholes :poke:

Never understood why people call it road tax. It's a duty based on emissions.

Probably because thats what it was and what it was for from 1888 to 1990 when the government decided to change the system :poke: :D

1990 was 28 years ago :o I bet to you oldies it feels like yesterday :poke: :P

What annoys me is the fact you can have vehicles paying pennies on VED, despite doing massive business mileage.

Always thought it would be best putting it on fuel and doing away with VED.

Even before 1990 the money didn't really get spent on the roads and as we all know it's really gone to sh!t in the last decade.
Lets hope that the Government sticks to the 2015 budget pledge that from 2020 the revenue would be ring-fenced for expenditure on the strategic road network. Again lets hope that's expanded so that some of it filters down to councils for local roads too. Then it would be a true road tax again.....kinda! :D

It’s terribly congested with traffic & potholes in Somerset as well, definitely not worth moving down here, oh no :P
