Rip off roadside assistance???
I’ve been with green flag ever since I’ve had my Z4, dispite 4 years no claims the policy keeps creeping up.
My renewal was £175 up £25 so I phoned them up, they said the renewal system doesn’t always recognise no claims bonus, obvious nonsense, they’re just ripping off people who auto renew. They changed my renewal to £140
Still wasn’t happy so cancelled it
Tonight I went on compare the market for 5 minutes and found several companies offering me cover for under £30 a year!!! My question is what’s the catch?
There is a £30 excess and I’ve read you may have to pay the recovery driver there and then and claim it back?
Hopefully I never need it

Rip off roadside assistance???
The trouble is they all do it!
I've been with RAC since 1996, and my renewal came through in September at £221.98!
So I went on-line and AA were quoting £135 for the same cover as a new member!
Then I rang the RAC and told them not to process an auto-renewal because they were far too dear - lo and behold they managed to give me the same cover for their new member rate of £129.
Why do we have to deal with this cr*p every year?
Thieving opportunist g*ts!

We use Greenflag with personal cover for me and the wife. This covers any vehicle we are travelling in. £89.00 per year.
Will look at Autoaid though next time as we have never claimed.

Unfortunately it is a case of you get what you pay for.
But you must phone every year at renual time to get a discount as 99% of the time you will get som £’s off
I am slightly bias as I work for The AA.
Any cover is better than no cover and it’s worth shopping around for a good deal.
The difference you will get from the AA / RAC is they will do their best to either fix the problem or at least properly diagnose the issue and get you to the garage of your choice as the patrols have repair targets to meet. Where as the cheaper companies use a network of local garages that get paid weather they fix it or not so are less likely to give as good a service.
A lot of Banks use AA or RAC so well worth checking if your account covers you.

Rip off roadside assistance???
Got the full RAC Home Start/Recovery package via Tesco points. I use Esso fuels and do my weekly shop at Tesco so I find the points build up fast enough anyhow. Effectively costs me nothing...

Modern, properly maintained cars hardly ever have a fault that can be fixed at the roadside. Gone are the days of plugging a lead back in that's worked its way loose. Now it's probably a tiny component failure buried deep in the engine bay.
I use AutoAid and have had a callout which worked no problem. Got fed up with AA/RAC who charge too much for basic roadside and to be frank roadside isn't enough cover to be worth having for the reason stated above. AutoAid recovered me to my choice of garage.
