Good Down Jacket

Post by TitanTim » Fri Nov 02, 2018 8:06 am

Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a good down jacket please. I've had a look at local shops but struggling so reliant online.

I bought a Timberland goose down 12 months ago and it's pretty poor, it doesn't insulate well and you can feel chills at anything less than freezing. The outside pockets also go right down to the hem so too deep, anything in there sits at the hem line and gets in the way, the inside pocket zip has also broke so disappointed alround. My previous jacket I had ten years and was lovely and warm but stupidly threw it away as was leaking feathers, it was an obscure make so can't remember what it was

I'm looking at Jottnar jackets which seem to get good feedback which has 850 rating.

Budget is around 250 so I don't want to be throwing money away. With these things you only know once you start wearing them.

Cheers,

Tim.

Mountain warehouse sell a range of down jackets. Very good quality and cheaper too.

This is similar to mine I brought a couple of years ago. It’s bloody warm.

If you do buy, look for discount codes first.

66 North definitely worth a look. I bought the Snaefell parka in Reykjavik and it's a fantastic coat.

I have one of these in blue...

Incredibly lightweight and thin, but incredibly warm. You can always find them on sale for about £200.

On the downside the hood does make you look like a walking penis

I've an old The North Face 700 down jacket and it's mighty warm, highly recommend. I also have a couple of Uniqlo lightweight down jackets for walking and they are excellent value, they also do heavier grades, I like Uniqlo as a brand, there're a bit out there in style but very good quality at a reasonable price.

Mountain Equipment mens Lightline jacket, I have owned mine for about 3 years and it is still like new and very warm, comes with a detachable hood which I thought was very handy. Also well within your budget.

Thanks all for the suggestions, really appreciate it, good shout for Rohan and Togg24, I hadn't considered these, pity the Rohan is only in one colour :( and annoyingly the Togg Elite and Beck jackets it doesn't say if the handwarmer pockets are zipped :? https://www.tog24.com/mens/clothing/jac ... s.html?p=1 as it states reverse entry I guess not :(

Swaying towards the Jottnar, https://www.jottnar.com/collections/men ... own-jacket,

Thanks again,

Tim.

I have a TOG 24 parka which is the best thing I have bought. So warm even with a T shirt underneath when we had the beast from the east last year. The wife has just bought a Jack Wolfskin down jacket which is every bit as good. I have a couple of Jack Wolfskin fleeces and must say first class kit
