What was your first car
Mark 1 Ford Escort 1100cc, SOV737H in white with two pin stripe red lines down the side. Paid £345 for it.
Never let me down, despite much provocation on my part.
Sold it two year's later for £300 and bought the most horrible Harvest Gold Mini 1000.
And I wasn't even on drugs!

///M Roadster. 2007 Black/Black. Rear spoiler, whippy aerial, mud flaps and gimp-style wind deflector!

What was your first car
A 1967 4 door MK2 Cortina 1500. Full poverty spec with vinyl seats and rubber mats on the floor, but a wooden dash out of a 1600E.
Probably spent as long with filler and rattle cans as I did driving it. It had to have a reconditioned gearbox, among many other faults!
Still luckily I was able to sell it after a year and get something a bit better.

2002 chilli red Mini Cooper S. Loved that car and having the massive sunroof is where my love of open top motoring came from. Just loved how airy and big the car felt.

1992 Proton 1.3 GL. So crap they didn't even name the car, just the engine size and trim! Do I get the prize for crappiest/ugliest first car?!
Looked like this one...
In it's defence, it was supremely reliable. I miss that car...

Mine was a 1968 bronze..(there's a theme there, I just realised!) non MOT Sunbeam Imp. Paid £65. All it needed for the MOT was a bush at the top of the steering column, which cost £2.40. Those were the days!

Exactly what I bought when I passed my test in 1977 kept it four years and like yours it started to drop apart. I paid £380 for it and sold it for £120obewan wrote: ↑Tue Oct 16, 2018 1:47 pm In 1978 when I passed my test I bought 1970 Trafalgar blue Austin 1100 for £450Austin 1.jpg
It only had 44,000 miles on it
Embarrassingly I put a sports steering wheel and spot lights on it
Great little car though (until the sills rusted) - learnt a lot working on it and was good for insurance until I built up some NCD

I suppose it was but my dad advised I spend a bit more to get something half decent that I wouldn't spend all day lying underCrazy Harry wrote: ↑Wed Oct 17, 2018 8:45 amYea but that was still big money in those days - think a pint was about 50p then - OMG I'm starting to sound like my dad nowHilly30si wrote: ↑Wed Oct 17, 2018 6:42 amExactly what I bought when I passed my test in 1977 kept it four years and like yours it started to drop apart. He also advised against my first choice (Escort) because all the kids had them and they were 'ragged'
Beer (real ale) was a bit cheaper up here. Local brewery - 24p for ordinary bitter and 24.5p for best
We drank ordinary on Friday and pushed the boat out and drank best on Saturday - stopped in bed most of Sunday vowing never to do it again!
