Alfasud Ti Cloverleaf in red, absolutely loved that car, handled beautifully, unfortunately the rust issue with those early cars got it.

A truly miserable example of British carmaking, which I suppose is why it was so cheap to buy at the time.
I think the 'GSi' stood for 'Gob Smackingly inferior' but feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

The engine in those was actually pretty decent for the time. The rest of the car though.
My mate had one of those in the 90's he made over 200K miles in it!

Yes, when it wasn't overheating with blown head gaskets the 1.4 K Series was a great engine.

I chose a 214SLi because the only other option offered was a 1.8 Sierra that was less powerful and had a higher BIK bill, so why would you?

The rest of the car seemed OK to me, but then it was only just over a year old at the time. :)
Most of them had head gasket trouble, mine cost more than the car was worth to repair!!
The Honda engine's were fine though

My first car was a Harvest Gold 1973/L 850 Mini. My parents allowed me to buy it when I was 16yrs old as I was pestering them for permission to buy a 50cc motorbike. I learned clutch control driving up and down the driveway at home eagerly awaiting my 17th birthday :) Before I started learning to drive it properly on the road I had it painted pillar box red with a white roof, had a peco exhaust fitted, bucket seats and a 10" steering wheel - loved it! :D

A nine year old 1967 850 Austin Mini, maroon with a silver roof & alloy wheels.
I paid £195 for it, sold it a year later for £225 and it's still the only car i've ever sold for more than I paid for it!

1986 Ford Escort 1.4 GL. Already 11ish years old when I bought it for £300. That there is a bonnet from a scrappie, originally brown, which I sprayed silver to match the car using copious amounts of silver Halfords spray paint except, sadly, it didn’t really match the car at all.

God I loved that car: memories of wheel bearings being replaced, filler, spray paint, the drivers door could be opened even when it had been locked, a misfire over 4000 rpm which meant you had to stall the car to cure it

a pimp-tastic rover 414i bubble for me.

It was actually a pretty decent buy at 650 squid and 30,000 miles on the clock.. which meant in what would become a bad habit, I sold it for a rover 216 coupe moneypit.

As soon as I passed my test in 1981, I bought a 1965 Mk1 Ford Cortina Lotus. Unfortunately, someone had previously swapped out the engine for a standard one. It still looked the dogs though (well, at least I thought so at the time), but I thought I could make it better by sticking black fur all over the dash, head liner and door cards.... oh yes, and complimented by fax fur tiger stripe seat covers  Embarrassing thinking back, but it did get some admiring looks, at least I thought they were admiring looks......

The first car I drove and in which I passed my driving test in was a 1936 Morris 8 Tourer. This was in 1958 and must have scared the examiner witless. The photo below is not the actual car but is the same type. Just in case you are all too young to know what one is! :)

I bought a 10 year old Ford Popular in 1989, RBA 848, for £35.

It got me around Manchester every day for 3 years when I was a university student, and down to Devon each summer.

It finally succumbed to the rust and I got a fiver for it at the scrap yard.
