Aviva - windscreen claims and OEM parts - again!

Post by Crazy Harry » Fri Aug 31, 2018 3:58 pm

So I got stoned this afternoon :o by the 20mm gravel kind and I'm bracing myself for the battle for OEM screen and seal for my E85 has anyone been through this with Aviva? what can you tell me that might make this an easier job - don't know which windscreen firm they use but I'm sure its going to be painful.

The stones (about 200 meters of them) have been carried out of a council building site by tipper trucks and now litter the road outside waiting to be thrown up by passing traffic - highways have invited me to make a claim so have got some photos but at the moment I want to gauge the best way to have a new screen fitted (insurers screen company or BMW) so I can establish how much my uninsured losses will be.

Will post a few shots later when I've calmed down a bit gerrr :headbang:

Aviva - windscreen claims and OEM parts - all done WIN,WIN

Post by Crazy Harry » Fri Sep 28, 2018 2:23 pm

Had a new OEM screen and trim/seal fitted on Monday this week - told Autoglass I wanted OEM they asked my insurance company then got them for me. When I asked the fitter to show me the trim and screen before he started he muttered something about forums then commented that the trim was folded in the pack "they normally come in a big box the shape of the screen like a goal post this is all screwed up" - hour later all done trim sprang into shape as it came out of the packet.

Why can BMW fold the trim - because its better more supple than the cheap replacements ask for OEM.

I also wrote to the building site owners asking them to cover my excess since it was their stone; and fair play to them today I get a cheque for £75

Also a  to Aviva and to Marlon for setting me off with the right mind set after his experience.

Have you got any BMW camera gizmos in the screen?
If you have then it’s a requirement that they have to be set / aligned after fitting and only BMW have the kit — BMW won’t work on non bmw screens.
That’s why Auroglass fitted an oem screen to our 335

The fitters act like it's coming out of their own pockets  had it a few times now and it's always the same if you moan about the quality of the parts.
