am i being too picky?
hi guys, sorry not Zed related, but BMW related.
There was a guy advertised on Facebook a few weeks ago who does paintwork, he works for BMW and does paintwork in his spare time so thought his works obviously going to be sound.
I needed the front and rear bumpers paited on my e92 in phoenix yellow
he made up some paint cards to find a match, i met him at his work and found a card that seemed to match pretty well, so i took both bumpers off he painted them and ive now refitted them.
Due to the way the rear arch meets the bumper, there is a massive area where they both meet so any difference in shade would be immediatley notcable, this is what im talking about
his reponse was that Phonenix yellow is very hard to match and painting the bumpers off the car is always going to lead to this issue, so basically washing his hands of it
is it that bad? am i expecting too much for an 11 year old car?

I can't fault his actual paintwork but the colour should match, 11 years old or not IMHO. Is a shame as if it was a match I am sure you would be singing his praises for a job well done?
Could probably live with it and most people will not notice, but only you know if you can cope with looking at it every day?

Jamie its hard for us to comment because even in the photo we are not seeing what you are.
Just for fun I put your image into publisher and cut the middle (panel joint) out of the photo - I promise no playing with colour shade etc because I'm not that good.
The difference Isn't that great in fact I think most of the effect is the angle of the panel surface and the lighting - the bumper is now looking a little too dark..... but as said it's what you can live with

Yeah totally see what your saying. It's most noticeable in direct sunlight. Here's anothee hopefully shows it better
The rear bumper is quite beigey and rear quarter has a darker hue to it

Shows how hard it is to tell with pics on our various devices - the second pic looks like a completely different shade!

It is Marlon doesn't help the fact that phoenix yellow comes out a totally different colour in every pic you take of it!

The bumper looks the same as the top of the wing in the second shot, where as the bottom of the wing looks different to both.
There is a PY coupe on here that I saw at Silverstone a few years ago, so would have been 6-8 years old at the time. Front end had been done. I think like silver its very hard to match. But would rather have that than it blended in which would look even worse.

Yeah he's offered to blend it into the wings for me but like you say could look even worse guess I'll just have to live with it

I once had a new focus St in electric orange and it came out of the factory with mismatched bumpers compared to the rest of the car. Seems like a common thing with plastic bumpers.
Tbh, I can't really see much difference in the photo's. It probably shows up more in the metal/plastic, but only you can decide whether you can put up with it or not.
Personally, it looks alright to me

I think I’d live with it going off the photos above.
If it makes you feel better look what ford are passing off as ‘painted body coloured bumpers’ on the works van... it’s only 6 months old.

There will always be a slight colour mismatch between plastic and metal even from the factory as the bumpers will most likely be sprayed at a different time and outsourced. Having said that some manufacturers are better than others at achieving a precise match. I would say the chances of getting an exact colour match is virtually impossible once outside the factory I.e. a respray. If it's metallic even worse as the paint flecks will be lying at a different angle and so bouncing the light differently. You can get a close match but alot is down to pot luck and the skill of the sprayer without blending the paint into adjoining panels. It will also look different under street lights and look alot worse. When BMW resprayed the rear bumper on my M135i which was silver it was a noticeably darker shade of silver depending on the light. The original factory bumper was slightly darker anyways. My current M140 in Estoril blue is pretty spot on with the bumper match, my metallic red Hyundai has a perfect colour match from the factory. I've had Vauxhalls where the colour match was poor from the factory.

As above, our Fiesta's plastic bumpers look different to the rest of the car. I noticed this on all the cars we viewed before purchase.

Have you tried polishing the rear quarters with a rotary or DA to bring them back clarity wise?
Love Phoenix yellow. Stunning on the right car. We had a customer come in last week who had his E class Merc re painted in Phoenix yellow and it looked awful. Just shows that on the right car it's the dogs.
Anyway, back to yours...I would polish the quarters and go from their.
