KwikFit pleasantly surprised

Post by TitanTim » Thu Jun 21, 2018 9:02 pm

The dreaded tyre pressure monitor symbol lit up on the dash this morning so pulled over and sure enough I had a nice shiny brass screw embedded in the tyre. As I was in the Hyundai i10 rather than the M140i with runflats I had the option of fitting the diddly spacesaver or as KwikFit was 2 minutes away decided to reinflate the tyre which by now had 1 bar left and limp it to KwikFit.

Last time I had a puncture was 1982  and the last time I used KwikFit was 1993 and aways said I wouldn't use them again as they bent a track rod end on my MR2 at the time  Anyways thought I would chance it to get the tyre repaired as they were so close. Have to say I was really pleasantly surprised, the manager came out of the office to greet me, within a minute the car was up on the ramp and two chaps decended on the car, the one dealt with the puncture repair and the other checked the underside of the car and the other tyres pressure and tread depth. Within 15 minutes the car was back off the ramp. I noticed the guy after torqueing the wheel nuts handed the torque wrench to another guy who went around all the wheels again which I thought was impressive. I was dreading damage to the alloy in getting the tyre off but not a mark, they even cleaned all the mounting lubricant off and reblacked the tyre :o
All in was just 25 quid and was back on my way in less than half an hour. I know the level of service can vary between franchises but shows how much it seems to have changed over the years with regard to customer service, I never felt they were a bunch of grease monkeys and came across very professional.

The manager mentioned they don't repair runflats so glad I was in the Hyundai today. I'm starting to think of swapping the runflats out for some Michelin PS4s on the 140 :? and good excuse to change the alloys :)

There's a Kwik Fit near me which I've used a few times over the last couple of years, and they've been nothing short of professional - very impressive, in fact! I guess they've had to work hard to cope with increased competition from the likes of Halfords etc. to stay relevant

I pay £10 for a puncture, one near home (who I've not used for punctures yet). And one near work. Happy with their service. Considering it was quick fit I'm surprised you didn't walk out with a new tyre, maybe they are "upping their game"!

From what I understand someone higher up the food chain realised they were getting a poor reputation for their quality and dodgy “up selling” and has put a stop to it. I’m sure it still goes on but they are a lot better than they used to be.
