Multi car insurance policy

Post by DaveD » Tue Apr 24, 2018 6:24 am

Hi guys

Probably a numpty question but....

When people take out a multi car policy, is this different from insuring several cars with the same insurer and getting a discount? I’m with e-sure for two cars and have a discount and my z4 is through a broker - each with different renewal dates. Having read around a bit, I wonder if I could get a better deal insuring all 3 through one insurer?

If this is the case, who do people use? Also, could my wife and i both keep our no claims bonus accruals or does this type of policy only use one persons NCB?

Any advice gratefully received!

I’m with admiral, as I know many are on here.

Two cars insured with two different main drivers, each with their own NCD.

As always though shop around for the best deal. Two separate policies could be cheaper.

I went multi-car with Admiral a while ago, a good saving in year one and as cars were added as they became due, then it was the usual p-take at renewal time and it was cheaper to get separate policies elsewhere. It's a 'come-on' to get you as a customer and hope you can't be bothered to shop around at renewal but can save in year one.

Thanks guys. Doesn’t seem the Multicar policies as a silver bullet to get cheapest premiums. I always shop around anyway but just wanted to check I wasn’t missing out! I’d have to cut short policies on two cars to take out a multicar so not sure it’s worth that loss of paid-for premiums (you never get much back on cancellation after all). Perhaps I’ll call admiral and see what they can do.

If I remember right I didn't have to cut policies short to go multi-car, once you sign up you add the other car(s) as they become due at an agreed price. As I said I made a saving year one, but then you are left with all your policies due the same time which can be expensive and/or a pain if you decide to separate them next year (I've got 4 cars in the family).

I’m with Admiral as LV wouldn’t mirror my NCB on the 2nd car.

Now I see LV are doing multi car policies too :headbang:

Im with Admiral at the miunte but due to renew on the 28th and their price has gone up £250 from last year. Looking around Esure multicar seems the best price at the minute but they want me to have a £400 compulsory excess on the Zed. Is this the same for others with Esure as Admiral only had a £100 excess

I've got an admiral multicar policy for 3 cars, the renewal was the same as I paid last year but after 1 phone call to them I managed to get it down by £200 for the same cover. Always worth a call to haggle, you can't make it worse ( I think)

I had a terrible quote a few of years ago with Admiral & ended up with Aviva's multicar policy. Their renewal price has also been good so ive stuck with them for the last 3 years. As said above best to shop around

Mine is up for renewal atm, also mutlicar with admiral. One phone call dropped the z by £100 and my wifes by £150. Haven't shopped around yet but wll do again and see if i can get cheaper then go back to Admiral. Did the same last year and they matched what I could get elsewhere. Also got the house insurance with them due in a couple of months so I use that for negotiation

I got a renewal for my E91 325i for £350-ish a few weeks ago.

That seemed a lot, so I called Admiral and LV as my Z4 will be up for renewal in June and I was thinking multi-car may be the way to go.

Well it certainly wouldn't be an option with Admiral - they wanted over £600 for just the 325i! What a p*ss-take!

LV were more sensible, but still too dear so I ended up checking in with the meerkats as usual.

Got cover from today for £305 with Sheila's Wheels - including £300 handbag cover!

im with Esure on both my Z4 and my daily audi a4 - they are both on separate payments but esure mirror the ncb from the Z4 to the audi which is cool, think I pay about £700 for both & £300 a year with classicline for my e36 328i

I’m with LV multicar and both get the same NCB but I pay different costs to protect it. Found them very good just done the M6 for an equivalent annual of £480 with the Zed equivalent of £240.
